That noise that the truck been making is the HB pulley! The question is...If I replace it will the new HB pulley damage the crankshaft? I'll be moving in a month to Oh. Which is 630 miles away and thur WV mtns.:mad2: Like Im not under a enough pressure with this retirement.

As always thanks for the advice.

The new pulley won't but the old harmonic balancer might, check it too!

Thats easy to change, take tension off belt and 4 bolts, should be able to do it in 20 mins. Good Luck with your move and change in life style.

Just my opinion, Guns, but if I were you, I'd change the harmonic balancer AND the pulley at the same time... while you have it apart, ya know?

Send Tim a PM and ask him what he thinks.

Either way, I wouldn't drive it without changing at least the pulley - when they fail, they usually take your crank with them.

Should of mentioned check the balancer for any signs of movement or rubber deterioration, if there isn't I wouldn't worry about it before the move. Doing the balancer turns into a bigger job as you need a harmonic balancer puller, 1/2" drive torque wrench good for 200 ftlb's and also need to find a long bolt that will fit into the crank to pull the new balancer back on and may also need to pull the bottom rad shroud off. Should also replace frount crank seal while your at it.

Ive replaced the balancer/pulley on other cars/trucks, and the pulley puller was cheap and pretty simple to use, just takes some wrenching. You can probably borrow anything you need from the parts store.

I know Harbor Freight has a pulley puller kit for about $10. It is probably not the best quality but for one time use every once in a blue moon is probably sufficient.

Or you can borrow it from part store.
