I'm Al, and I'm a Chevy "6.5 olic."

Here's how, and why, I found this forum.

I have a 1994 Chevrolet K-3500 one ton truck with a 6.5 Turbo Diesel, I have had since 1996. The truck is set up exactly like I want it, and I would rather spend $8,000-$10,000 on my truck, than twice as much on a "newer one."

To be honest I do not know how many miles I have on it except to say that well over 400,000 or 500,000 miles, I just can not remember how many times the odometer has turned over.

With the exception of hitting two deer, this vehicle has not been wrecked.

The vehicle is still running, but parked it because the Fuel Injection Pump is going out. It suddenly dies when running, then starts again about 45 minutes later. I have a new Fuel Injecting Pump, in the garage, but will install it once I have replaced or repaired the engine.

I will primarily use this truck as one will use a truck, and to haul my 35 Foot Travel Trailer on three or four trips a year.

So while I am getting the engine replaced, what other upgrades would be recommended while this work is being done?

For all practical purposes, the truck is stock. I have an over sized radiator on it already. I have relocated the PMD.

I would like to upgrade to a 4 inch exhaust, and upgrade the cooling system.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Welcome Al G!

Since we are all talking about spending your money- gold plate everything! Ok, maybe not.

Become familiar with p400 vs optimizer vs gm 6.5 before spending a dime. P400 best, if cant swing $ get a take out oprimizer.

Guessing you plan to just drive it forever and not towing the world or hot rodding.

Gapless rings, fluid dampener balancer, balanced flow waterpump, new injetors balanced to within 25 psi of each other at 2350 psi, turbo upgrade to ATT and kojo tune, felpro gaskets, if $ allows, balance lower rotating assembly.
AC Delco 60g or bosch duratems for glow plugs.

Go to 4" exhaust. What air filter do you have?
LP relay installed and consider better LP like Walbro.
Add fuel pressure gauge in cab.
Replace ip return line with clear fuel line- viton if available.

Still have $ left over? Ceramic coatings do wonders for shedding heat and extending life. Cryogenic treating parts is never a bad idea if you can afford it.

Ok, im done spending your cash for now- lmk how much is left over and we can fix that.;)
