I have a Dmax fan en route and thought I'd do motor mounts just to be absolutely sure they werent an issue. I did a search for engine mounts and then motor mounts... didn't turn up much. Any tricks to this or is it as straight forward as every gasser I've ever done?

First you have to go to GM if you want rubber ones as the aftermarket ones are just slighlty different(been there tried that). You will need an engine hoist, lots of patience, and to be a contortionist to lay in between the engine hoists legs while wrestling the mounts out and then the new ones in. It's a slow job to get done as there just isn't much room to work in there. Also a 15MM gear wrench is worth it's weight in gold for this job.

Get an estimate from a local shop or two for this job. Really, this low amount they would charge can help you decide if you want to do this job or not. It isn't even fun with the fenders cut off and manifold out of the way. (4x4 anyway) Just getting the frame side nuts off let alone back on...

They also make poly motor mount inserts that require a little more work to install, IE you have to replace the rubber in the mount itself. Post here somewhere on that.

I did mine several weeks ago, along with water pump, stat and crossover repair. Ordered both form Rock Auto. Ferm is right - there is a slight difference in how the bolt hole in the mount lines up with the two engine brackets. On my set the difference was very small. But it still took several hours to get everything to line up and bolt up. Maybe OEM mounts are different; maybe it's just a PITA job.:confused:

Getting the old mounts out was no prob. Used my engine hoist to lift the motor slightly and take the weight off each mount. Took the long motor mount bolt loose and pulled it out, then unbolted the mounts from the crossover. Raised the motor about two inches and slid them up and out. Slid the new ones in, making sure they were oriented the same way as what came out. Got 'em in place, bolted them down and then lowered the engine. Slid the driver's side bolt through the brackets and the mount, then spun on the nut. Went to the pax side to repeat, and that's when the FUN started. :nonod::nonod::nonod: Passenger side bracket sat way too high. Could NOT get it to drop in place. And working around the starter was a true joy. :rolleyes5: Finally wound up taking the DS loose and installing the pax side bolt and nut. Naturally, the DS mount now sat too high. I used a 5 foot 2x4 jammed up under the PS exhaust manifold and braced against the frame to rock the engine clockwise. Sure 'nuff, after a bunch of attempts, the DS bracket dropped onto the mount. Ran the bolt thru and tightened the nut. Gotta tell ya, I needed new mounts (both were collapsed), but I don't wanna do that again anytime soon!

You are 4x4 so the front diff will be in the way. Making it even more fun.

I have bad mounts and the DMAX fan. Fits fine with no trimming. The mounts will wait till I pull the engine...

One of the mechanics at the shop my girlfriend manages is like "dude, no problem, come over Saturday and we'll use the lift"... I'm like Jethro, my Truck Stop peeps tell me its a bizatch! He's convinced it isn't, but he hasn't seen it either. I have. Becoming less inclined by the day to do this, especially since mine don't appear to be bad!

Today is finally vac pump delete/harmonic/dmax fan day. Shouldn't be too bad, but I think that might be enough for the weekend.
