Well, you can always tell a 6.2/6.5 owner, but you can't tell 'em much...
True, true...

I spoke with Bill about my ATT and Dennis' concerns / suspicions on the housing not being 100% (Previous owner's "buddy" was working on the truck and ended up pulling some harder than air items through it and the story just gets sadder from that point on). Anyway, they aren't going to use this one for any experiments and I'll put it back on later Dennis and I get the housing issue sorted out.

I did tell John (part time guy at Heath's) to put a sign on the block that says "___ Days till Paul arrives to take delivery of this thing." It will have 3 x 5 cards with numbers on them to count it down. Today is 14....

It would be interesting to be a little mouse in the corner watching you take delivery, and the first run. I'm no more than 5 hours away, but justifying the fuel expense to drive up there is not going to be easy.

I'm sure that you can come up with one! Hell, I used to drive 120 miles each way just to get some slabs of killer ribs, and be back in time to have take them to work with me second shift!

I used to do similar spur of the moment things. But, now I'm on a very limited income so I have to be very careful, doing everything I can to make Lincoln squeal.

Same here, Don. Haven't worked since my accident at work back in Sep '08 and the company let me go rather than pay me to be on restricted duty that December. What a nice thing to do the week before Christmas and New Years. Two reconstructive shoulder surgeries and a still messed up hip and lower back later my Work Comp ran out last July and I still can't find anyone willing to hire a highly experienced 51 year old individual who has permanent physical restrictions for any job position he's qualified for, even as a part time convenience store clerk on the graveyard shift. I almost feel like joining those people I see out front the local WalMart and Sam's Club with the cardboard signs. Mine will read: "No Drugs, No Alcohol, Willing to work for 6.5 turbo diesel parts":rolleyes5:

"No Drugs, No Alcohol, Willing to work for 6.5 turbo diesel parts"

I like that!!! If we lived closer to each other we could set there together.

I FULLY understand where you are at. We're almost two peas in a pod. My on the job injury was the morning of Dec 23, 2008. Gave up and had my wife take me in to ER at midnight. They gave me IV pain meds and then enough pain pills to get me to my Dr the next morning. More pain pills and muscle relaxers didn't help. I went into the hospital Dec 30 and in for emergency surgery new years eve. Five months later the Dr wanted me to try working half days, light duty (in a cabinet shop? yeah, right). After four hours on the concrete floor I was bent almost double from the pain. I slowly got somewhat better, but never like I was before. Concrete floors, setting too long, standing in one place too long, etc are problems. Got screwed over big time by SAIF (state accident insurance fund) and ended up on disability.

I hate it for both of you and other that are in the same situation. Hang in there and, if possible, re-educate in an I.T. or other field. Guys here are getting $16.50 for watching others work and can sit down. One must have a Top Secret Security Clearance and pass a Poly though but they simply escort un-cleared workers through secure areas to ensure they do only the work they are supposed to do and don't go wandering around (memories of the Embassy in Russia circa 1980). Anyway, I hope for the best for all, I was out of work for a while and count myself blessed to be earning an income in a field I love...working with people.

I'll get down to see you there Cannon, one day or another. You, Missy and the newer guy "Skylark" IIRC are on my Oregon "got to meet someday soon" list. The wife has wanted to see the places Sunshine, 635 and I blew through so I'll be out your way too Husker. Time and patience.

Speaking of that. The engine will require more time and, therefore, patience on my part. So, no scheduled delivery date. I need the truck and may go get it on schedule as the motor is in it and when the new engine is done, I'll cross that bridge. Time and patience. Sacrificing those ends in unpleasantries.

My situation has devolved into a pissing contest between between me and a large, multi-national insurance company that refuses to do what they are supposed to do under our State's weak Work Comp laws to either find me similar work with another employer, or if they can't do that, pay to retrain me. Having already paid for two surgeries and 2 1/2 years of weekly disability payments, they are using the excuse of the termination (this is a Right to Work for Less state) as grounds to deny me what by law they're supposed to pay, as they do not want to not only pay for two years tuition at a 2-year tech school, but do not want to pay weekly benefits for that two year duration. I really would like to get my AAS in Nursing and become an RN. Demand is high in a field that is growing, and the pay is double of what I used to make.

As an Armor officer in the Army Reserves (Scouts Out!), I used to hold a Secret clearance. I got RIF'ed back in '98 with 17 years 3 months of good time in because of a two-time pass over on my Promotion Boards from Captain to Major. This was post Active Duty draw down time and we had a LOT of Senior O3-O4 and E6-E8 who took the early retirement option on active Duty, then came over to the Reserve side to finish out their 20 years, whom us Reservists suddenly had to compete against on our boards. The minimum points needed for ascension skyrocketed so that virtually no Reservist had enough promotion points to compete with those coming over from the AD side. I'm sure with my recent financial troubles, a Top Secret would be next to impossible to obtain anyway.

Anyhow, keep us posted, along with pics, of the progress of the new motor.

I appreciate the thoughts and the info. Due to my age (62) I don't think anybody will want to put out money on a retrain, so I've been put out to pasture. I would love to be working and earning a good income, but I'm kind of thick headed where computers are concerned. Although with enough repetitive action maybe this old dog would eventually catch on. Moving anywhere is out for now as I'm the only one of my siblings in a place to be able to be here for our 87 year old mother.

I would be honored to be able to meet you if you are able to come through the area.

Hey Paul, will you be anywhere near Portland on August 5-11? I have to be there for training. We probably won't bring the dually though, it is tough to beat 47-48mpg of the civic...
Don, we will be driving right past you on August 5th around noon but probably quite late on the return trip. Will you be around to meet for lunch?

Not this trip. I'll be "East bound and down" from Ellensburg early 4 Aug and home late that evening. Sorry, it would be great but we'll have to meet another time I guess.

I should be around and available. I won't be able to go out anywhere as I will be with extended family at Millersburg Park, but you are welcome to crash our picnic lunch and I'll make sure that my wife packs plenty (there's always lots of extra by everybody). Millersburg Park is not very far off I-5 and easy to find and has lots of good shade trees.

I'll PM you my e-mail address so we can communicate details.

I had a great conversation with Bill and will take a :chillpill: for now. Business issues are eating away at his available time and as I'm not in need of a new motor, I'll head up there on 2 AUG; have yet another meet and greet with Ted, Bill and John; steal my ATT back from Joe; take a plethora of pictures; drop off a cam core or two I've aquired of late and some other parts; turn a wrench or two on the new motor (hope springs eternal) and then head back home on Saturday. On the way back, I'll stop in Meridian ID at the Diesel Dyno and have a GTG with Jamin6.5 and jhornsby3. If time permits, I'll get a baseline on the old motor and turbo(s) while there. Then sleepy eye it back home.

I had a talk with Bill last night also hes a busy guy

Pilgrimage

Flew in to Seattle and boy are my arms tired (cymbols please).

Ted picked me up and we rolled up I-90 to Ellensburg and Heath Diesel. We happened to catch Bill in a lull between phone calls and got in a great conversation on current and future business doings. Fun stuff in the works. No, call him yourselves.

We went over the build and what all needs to be done. Most importantly, the block needs a final cleaning and the crank installed with pistons at the corners so that a proper measurement may be taken on piston heights. There is a question as to how much material may have been removed from the decking by Diesel Depot. We do know what Rich took off but how much prior to that by DD... Drama continues...

Since the earlier picture was fairly small, here are some more.

660 Block is mounted up and standing by for that all important ingredient...time.

Too many pictures for the previous post to add anything more...
So, to keep it entertaining, the GM-8 checked out, is honed as well and is standing by. Just need a little cleaning.

Save the "GM X slams". The original build was done with this turbo and I drove it one summer with Ted. We both want to see how it runs with the cam and a 3000 pound lighter truck.

I've still got plans to run my ATT later, just have to find it at Bill's...lots of parts hiding in corners these days, like new fuel lines.

Still waiting on the grinder to produce the cam and Fluid Dampener to ship.

I am sure people on this site will come up with a better idea about the head work with of their expert knowledge of intake and exhaust flow capabilities because the wrong valves were used! Probably say the pistons are not the right ones to use, the coating is all wrong either too much or too little, wrong engine block because it just isn't strong enough, precups aren't going to work well because of the bowl flow isn't enough, or why aren't the skirts coated, or the wrong turbo is being used, the camshaft won't work, the wrist pins are not going to work, cross hatching isn't enough or it is too much, wrong bearing used, wrong rings used, the extrude-hone work wasn't done right on the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Come on all you expert engine builders let the rest of know what should off been done to your specs and with your money!

Man, all I can do is sit here and drool on my keyboard:drool5: looking at all the nice, new (or rebuilt) shiny parts!:drool5:

1. You need to use the intake valves off a 79 Datsun B210 for the exhaust valves, they allow "extra clearance" to allow the valve to wiggle closed for an optimum seal.
2. The pistons were incorrect for this application because they are not the ones supplied be the "experts" at Damaged Diesel.
3. The best piston coating to use is Rhino Liner because the liner seals against the cylinder walls better when warm.
4. You have the wrong block as well, everybody knows that the best blocks were from the 350 olds engines circa 1983.
5. Your precups would have better flow if you welded a stainless sink strainer to them, the strainers align the fuel molecules to double their effective flow.
6. The best flowing bowls are made by Corelle.
7. Coated skirts are the best. Have you ever seen a chick in a skirt straight from a mud pit?
8. Your turbo blows. A better combination can be had with a proper mating for Kerby, Rainbow and Hoover vacuum cleaner parts. Everybody knows that a turbos that sucks is perfect for your application.
9. Your camshaft won't work because of it's egg shaped lobes. Round lobes have less friction.
10. Wrist pins? Really your using those? If you install a rubber shaft through the rod to retain the piston it allows for high RPM displacement increase. It uses the fuel of a 4 cylinder until you mash the throttle, then the pistons help the valves close faster.
11. Nobody crosshatches anymore. You need compression relief grooves in the cylinder walls with the high compression ratios of these engines.
12. Your bearings are correct! Congratulations, you have done something right.
13 Multi gap rings are the best, they expand in the heat, usually right into the cylinder walls.
14. Extrude honing is old tech, you need to create pressure ridges with hard rolls and a dremel. You also need pressure relief holes so that won't need a wastegate.

As you can see, I'm an expert in bull crap.
