12ga diesel
Jack of all, Master of none
Yesterday Morning, while at work truck was running fine, had already drove about 50 miles and was just like normal. Then leaving a 4 way stop sign intersection, as I hit the throttle, the sputtered. I let off of it, waited about 2 seconds and rolled back into it, and it picked right back up. About 4 miles down the road, another intersection. I stoped, got on the throttle, and I made it about halfway through when it sputtered again, and this time when I let off and got back into it... nothing. I barely got through the intersection when the engine shut off and the first thing I saw when I looked at my gauges was the oil pressure was at 0. So I was worried that something happened to the oil pan, or somehow lost oil pressure. I got off to the side of the road and checked everything under the hood and under the truck.
I pulged the Smarty Jr. in, and checked for codes, got a P0628 (Low Voltage Detected at Lift Pump). So I looked on line for any diesel shops around in the area, and sure enough, there was one about 15 miles away. I got towed there and my first thought was to just get a replacement for the stock pump with another stock pump. But when I walked in, they had banners up for FASS Pumps and much more. I asked about the FASS, and said they do keep them in stock for my truck. So I decided to go with that, as I know the stock pump won't hold up to all that much fuel if I decided to run a big tune on here sometime.
I got a FASS 95 Series (Titanium Series), and really like it so far. I also like knowing that this pump can run for the life of the truck, as I got to read all the info of the pump and all the other products they sell and install while waiting for 4 hours. FASS claims that the pumps have been tested to run 13,000- 15,000 engine hours. All in all, I got the pump for $650, and was $450 for labor and they did a great job. A big thanks to Joe at Diesel Service Center in Bollingbrook, IL. Talked with him for about 10 minutes and him and all the guys working there really know their diesels. That is all they work on there. Not just big rigs, but as he put it, "If it burns diesel, we work on it." So I got another thing I wanted to add on to the truck. But this time it was something I actually NEEDED, and not just something I wanted. At least that is what I told the wife.):h
