Anyone know if the release tool needed on a 05 Duramax fuel tank lines is similar to the gasoline type ? I want to make sure I have one before my new tank arrives.

IIRC when I did my Nicktane filter, in the instructions the fuel line release tool was the same for my 01 as the 05 lly...it should take the lisle white plastic ones...round slotted disk where you slip them over the line and slide them into the fitting pulling in and then the lines should separate...I bought the set of different sizes so I'm not sure which size it is anymore...

Great, I have 2 set of those and the steel one with the 2 piece collar and handle.
I am seriously looking forward to dropping that thimble sized 26 gal tank.

Thanks.

yeah... I hear you on the tiny tank...I'd love to get a bigger tank, but that would cut into my go fast fund...:nono:

can't have that...:hihi:

Get an auxilliary tank for the bed. ;) I would like a bigger tank too, but I don't care for any of the after market underbed tanks available.

There were 2 sizes needed, both were contained in the plasitc kit that I had. After putting a little PB blaster on them I got them off okay. The biggest PITA was getting the filler neck off and then back on. I had to pull it off at the fill door and then drop the original tank with the hose attached. It may be possible to pull it off the tank when the trucks on a lift bit there is no decent access while laying on your back. I was able to get it back on once the new tank was in place but it was tricky and required someone to hold the hose in place while I got it clamped on, an extra elbow would have helped on my right arm.
It was a PITA due to the lack of a lift, the heat and the fact that I was working alone most of the time. I am unimpressed with the vent lines on the tank, considering the cost I thought they should have been laid out better and secured on the tank also.

for the price of those tanks, you'd figure they'd plan everything out better...

how is the fuel gauge in relation to the DIC working?

Mine is an 05 LS so I dont have the DIC info that some of the trucks have. Right now I have 300 combined miles on this tank and its just under 3/4

So the fuel gauge is pretty accurate then?

I'd have to top it off and see how much it takes in relation to what the gauge says you have left...
