Yeah, got burned.
Had a bunch of windows open and the bugger snuck in when I wasn't looking.
Hijacked my browser, fake security warnings popping up all over the place, and it shuts down my antivirus and malware protection.
Off the net the computer goes, pulled the plug on that sucker.
Task manager revealed a process running called "steam" in the description. Shut that tree down and the "new" icon in the task bar goes away.
Aha, gotcha you sumanabeech!
Now, Search and Destroy will start. Use it to cut the things head off.
Sure enough, now I can start malwarebytes. Deep scan reveals a couple tentacles still wriggling around after manually removing the body. Quickly rip them out and make calamari out of those.
System is now clean again.
I hate the way people have nothing better with their time than to make these PITA things or try to scam you out of a couple bucks.
Really, how hard can it be to track them down? They ask for money to a freaking account after all!
They should be run down, drug out into the street and shot with their own feces.
Wasted damn near the entire afternoon that I could have been working.
