I have a friend with a 02 LB7 with 212,000 miles. It seems to have a surge while idling. You can get on it in Park or Neturl, when coming back down to idle it'll surge and have a lope to it for a second. Sounds like the FPR to me, any thoughts? Balances rate are pretty good, 1 or 2 sitting at 3.00

3 is getting up ther for the balance rates. What was the fuel pressure doing? I know I had the dreaded lope in mine and it was the FPR, it would jump from 4600 up to 6300 when it was commanding 5300. HUCKSTORF had the best price when I got mine.

I didn't check the fuel pressure. He doesn't have a hard start or nothing, but he said when he first starts it he smells raw diesel bad, can't start it in the shop it'll run you out.

That goes hand and hand with the balance rates and sounds like the early stages of injectors.

I have the same problem. Except I can feel it shake intermittently at idle, really feels like a miss in a gasser, it comes and goes every 2 seconds. Anyways when I'm braking upon coming up to an intersection sometimes it will surge and pull ahead almost wanting to jump out into the intersection just before I come to a complete stop. After talking with a buddy, who said this exact thing happened to his dads LB7 and it was the FPR I figured this would be it. I replaced the drivers side bank of injectors a few months ago, and I'm patiently waiting the passenger side.... I am probably going to replace the Fuel Pressure Regulator unless somebody has a better idea.

And no, i do not have access to anything that will read my balance rates and mess with all that jazz. Which sucks I should just go buy EFI live and bite the bullet.

Thats not very cheap. $186

Huckstorf has it for the same price as Gillett

Common wealth is even cheaper yet, never dealt with them before though. Gillett is reputable and Huckstorf is very reputable, only about an hour and a half away from me.

The reason they are so much cheaper is because they buy them through bosch not GM. For this part it is cheaper. But now say LB7 injectors, thats a different story, through Bosch they are $350, through GM they are as low as $206

Call a local Bosch Dealer if you want to, Bosch PN is 0928400535, any of them will be able to get you it.

Well I attacked this project last weekend. It started to go south when I couldnt get the FPR out of the CP3 so I ended up taking the entire CP3 out which was kinda a huge PITA. I got it out and put back in but I went through two of the upper O-ring gaskets for the water outlet pipe that runs from the Thermostat housing to the water pump. That pipe, is a stupid, stupid design and there is no way to get it in and out easily and not break that gasket. Using an injector sleeve O-ring is really the best answer as they are tougher. I dont understand why two male ends and some hose with a couple clamps wouldnt have worked just fine. Anyways, just another lesson in the LB7 Diesel school of Hard Knocks. YOU CAN DO IT TOO just take things apart and put them back together!

those types of setups are everywhere unfortuneatly. Theres only a couple on the DMax but on older stuff they are common. The 855 Cummins in my old KW project truck has a bunch of them. And the previous owner smear them with blue RTV.
