Hello there first time diesel owner here, just as stated in title, there are many choices of diesel trucks and this one stood out the most, power, looks, interior and much more. Just wanted to know how the duramax compares to the rest in your opinions??? Thanks

Stock it is the best package overall. up to 500hp just as good as the Cummins much better than the powerstroke. Over 500hp, bottom end is weak. Build the bottom end and it will run with cummins trucks all say long.

The cummins is more stout in that department??? I looked at several and they are well built trucks, especially the 6.7 cummins.

They are not well built trucks just well built motors.

The 6.7 is a bored and stroked 5.9 so it is a tad weaker. Plus all of the emissions crap on it.

Yes, that is what I meant, the motor!!! The looks are weak and the interior is kind of funky.

Welcome:beer:

In my professional oppinion the Duramax is the only way to go. It may cost more to modify at times, but in the end you still have a better engine.

In high power engines with large displacements and heavy rotating assemblies, a inline engine design will generally be more durable in the bottom end. This is mainly due to the differences in the forces applied to the crankshaft in a "V" engine. Hence why from the start the Cummins is a bit more durable above 500hp than a Duramax without modification to the bottom end. .....Confused yet?:D:pop2:

But don't get me wrong, I'm Duramax all the way:beer:.

Us Duramax guys just need a tune, lift pump, and built transmission for 500RWHP easily! :chevy:

What did you get? and How do you intend to use it?

In my opinion when you consider the complete package, the Duramax engine and Allison transmission in a Chevy or GMC are unbeatable as a work vehicle.

If you are planning to race or pull with it, you'll need some modifications and other will state different opinions, but overall, the new Duramax is quite durable and a great value for the money.

BTW - Fill out your signature, so that we won't be constantly asking you "What do you have?"

I already filled out the sig, hopefully it pops up. I intend to use it for work and play. Some heavy towing up to 10,000 lbs and some weekend racing!!!

Another point i figured id bring up. If you havent noticed us duramax guys are quick to admit that the cummins is better, and that our IFS is weak.

Most of us dont carry a big chip on our shoulder and are down to earth and seem to be a pretty big family. Out west there are some people who dont like people but all in all the duramax group is one of the nicest and least stuck up.

Although I will agree the IFS can use improvement, I don't believe its weak at all. Cummins is a good motor and no real debate can be made about it. Any motor that lasts 500k on a regular basis is a good motor. If my dmax lasts to 300k i will be happy. Overall though I agree that dmax owners are decent people.

I'm close to 200k on my dmax and it is a solid truck, especially w/new injectors:eyebrows:
