Well I go into work today and my tranny is sitting on my bosses desk.

The goodies I got:

Suncoast Stage IV
1055 3 Disk Converter
Mag-Hytec deep pan

its gonna be a long weekend

NOTE: he agreed to the sponsorship well before I worked there so me working there had nothing to do with it.

yep I really wanna see how fried everything is.

Should be nice once its done though.

Make a nice DIY Vinny if you have the time. It would help alot of members out. Take alot of pictures also..:D

Well guys a little update.

These trannies are a PITA to get out of the truck. So far nothing has been easy or even hard its all pretty much kicked my arse.

Gettin ready to hook up the tranny jack and drop her out.

As for the write up that will have to some another time when I have to tear the tranny apart. Sorry guys, but Its beean a bitc# and I need to get it done.

More updates later.

That rules me out doing my own..

Whats aggravating Vinny?

Jim: like I said he agreed to this a few months before I started working there. I dont care if I dont get a raise for awhile. The whole package is the reason I love the job. Between the perks like this and our discounts on tires, rentals, store goods and equipment purchases it doesnt get much better. Oh wait it does, the most flexible schedule ever, tomorrow was my saturday to work, boos said take the day off and work on that tranny you got a syno day to get to next weekend so its gotta be done, and let me know if you need anything more during the build is what he said. Great place to work, really laid back and everybody is a joker up there.

Jeff: For me the most aggravating part was the NSBU switches top wiring harness. I fought it for an hour and a half last night and then called Mike L. this morning again(that guy must be getting sick of me by now). He said the only way youll ever get it off is to use a heat gun. So I did and fought it for another 20 minutes and it came off. Turns out there is some kind of glue on it that holds it in, in addition to the rubber grommet and plastic clip with a lock.

The Torque converter bolts were a PITA too. Trying to break them loose with no room to move, and a hot engine block burning my hands.

But before the TC bolts was the biggest aggravation right from the get go, I ruined my starter. I barely started to turn the wrench and snap. The stud for one of the wires ripped a hole in the solenoid housing. So ther goes another $250. In addition to the $200 ill have tied up in Transynd tranny fluid.

However after my previous post I said a prayer and called up 3 of my buddies and everything was fairly smooth sailing from there. T-Case dropped out smoothly and the tranny itself came out with a little pursuasion.

The best advice I can give you is make sure all of the bolts are out. And dont take your buddies word for it. And also GM service manuals are useless.

Now I have to find my ATSG manual for the allison internals, If I dont im screwed. Anybody else here got one??

Well see how things go maybe I will make a write up but at this point I doubt it, I just need to get the thing done.

Im in a much better mood right now knowing that the tranny is on the ground with only a broken starter as a victim.

Well, tomorrow is another day and I get to tear into the internals. Should be fun, might need to make a few trips to the tool store for some fancy snap ring pliers as I dont know if our set here at the farm will be good enough.

Im starting to notice that I really underestimated how big of a task this is, and Mike L put it best, "theres a reason why it costs so much to have somebody else do it".

If I were anybody else on here with mechanical knowledge who would want to take on this task, I would still tell you to do it. In my opinion no matter how much you screw up you still come out ahead in the end. You should come out with less hurt on your bank account, but even if you dont at least you learned something for the next time.

Stay positive

More later.

At least you got it out. That sucks on the starter. At least snap so pictures with the tranny out and some internal shots. Those always make the garage look good..:eyebrows:

Right now I really have my eyes set on a early Duramax for the fun (Race, Pull, Etc.). Then I may tackle it will me not caring how long it takes or if i'm going to screw it up. I paid a little over 47,000 for my truck. I just don't see me beating on it like I will if I throw a tranny in it. Once I do get another truck and all goes well, it might be a different story.

I paid 26,000 for mine and obviously really dont care too much about it. Its turning into a dedicated puller and I have no money for a daily driver besides my trusty isuzu.

Well I could be a lot further right now but I decided to go into work this morning for a little bit. Turns out it was a good idea, had to load some equipment that was texas bound and set up some fall tillage equipment with a very little window of time because the customers were coming. i was outta there by 1. But I could tell that this 0 hours of sleep thing is getting to me.

It was nice to go turn wrenches on the big tillage equipment, helps you get your confidence back.

The highlight of my day was when I found My ATSG manual, I would have been screwed without it. After tearing the whole house apart on thursday I couldnt find it, my dad thought it might have been in our RV which was an hour and a half away. So i took off work and we went and got it yesterday but turned out the manual wasnt in it, but the RV needed to come home anyways.

Today I went to check the weather on our DTN and right next to the screen was my manual.

I went back to work to make my table stand for my tranny so I could rotate it properly. Me and my boss walked around scratching our heads as we couldnt find two pipes to fit inside each other to save our lives. So we took two that were close, and threw the smaller on it the lathe until it fit.

I took my time building it but am really happy with the results and it turns like butter. Hopefully dad isnt mad that I drilled 4 holes in his welding table, i guess he never welds anyways so no big deal.

No pictures up yet as my camera is dead, like dead dead. Ill see if I can get ahold of one though.

more later.

pulling the trans. Im just starting to tear into it, if i ever get out of the barn where Im at listening to mexican polka music and walk back over to the shop (20ft or so) where I could listen to american music.

Id say the hardest parts so far are the NSBU Switch harnesses, and The Torque Converter bolts.

everything else has been smooth.ish

So your still in the process of building the inside right?

yep. Im calling it a night.

I have the entire thing gutted except for the C4 clutchpak. The snap ring was kicking my arse so I decided ill start tomorrow with a fresh day.

It took my less than an hour to get this far. once you take the bell housing and tailhousing off everything but the C4 pak just kind falls right out. Literally it falls out like butter.

At the rate this is going I should have it all built and ready to go in tomorrow. I could probably even install it tomorrow.

But to completely finish it up and run it I will have to wait. I need a couple gaskets and 6 gallons of tranny fluid.

Plus my boss has a guy that he thinks can fix my starter for $40 and $0 for me so I will take it up to him first, if he cant fix it then I will go get the new one.

Sounds good. Look luck man, get some battery's for that camera and keep us updated!
