EGT Probe Question

Looking to relocate the EGT probe after the ATT install

In my "leftover parts" box, I have a brand new snowmobile style EGT probe that would fit very well on the crossover pipe. It would require just a quick drill into the pipe, and it self seals and is held in place by a band clamp. They work quite well and are easy to install on sled exhaust pipes. See picture

So...

Obvious question does anyone know if this will work connected to an automotive gauge?

I'm wondering if the difference in resistance will cause a problem, as the sled probe is made to connect directly to back of the gauge, and auto gauge wire might add length and/or more resistance and throw its readings off

I wonder if I have a matching snowmoble gauge laying around somewhere... hmmm
They sell a dual face gauge... what about one in the cross over and one in the air intake

This is getting interesting:idea:

Thermocouples, your EGT probe, deal with millivolts. A change in wire length along with soldered, crimped, etc, connections adds a huge change to resistance for that small of a voltage. In other words do not change the wire length or your EGT gauge readings will be garbage. They are calibrated from the factory for that length of wire. Get an automotive EGT gauge with the proper length of wire or don't do it at all.

The screw connections automotive gauges have are special as to not generate voltage with temperature and affect readings. So solder or crimping these wires will ruin their accuracy and be unable to be calibrated due to the connection 'noise'.

Gotcha

So I'll dig up my dual EGT snowmobile gauge (I found a second matching probe), and I'll do one in the crossover pipe and one in the air intake

If it's the matching probe and gauge (all factory made, no splices, etc) it should work on our diesels right?

SWEET!
What a time saver.
Drill small hole in crossover, tighten band clamp, feed wires to gauge, done!
I'll give it a try, after all, its paid for!
