Hi all,

I'm looking for a good head to replace one I suspect a crack in. I'm a bit tired at the moment of repairing things or dealing with "used but good" item...

So, I found some heads on ebay, at affordable price, average $400~450 loaded, said to be new. One seller says the head is not chinese, was casted in Canada, and assembled in Virginia.

Think this should have been debated already, but could not find threads about these.

Anyone already used ebay heads? Pro? Cons?

The Reman GM casting I bought in 07 was $500 after core. (this had signs of a piston top and ring pieces embedded in one cylinder, but was guarantied)

Unless an ebay seller has a good reputation, I'd be leary.
But time and money, the lack of either or both may say give it a chance.

The canadian ones : http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-5-Diesel-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item19e3906f7a&vxp=mtr

This one, a chinese : http://www.ebay.com/itm/28107381978...=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr#ht_216wt_1124

One from Odessa : http://www.ebay.com/itm/151224479570?item=151224479570&viewitem=&vxp=mtr

One from Titan Engine : http://www.ebay.com/itm/27112827133...em=&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr

One thing I note is that these sellers have good feedbacks, though, Titan didn't reply to my question asking if it is a chinese casting or not.

Funny,..the one made in Canada:nonod:,...does not ship to Canada :rolleyes5:.

IMO they are all Chinese.

Nothing wrong with China heads,...i got nearly 50 K km on the rice eater set with the chinese(magnetic) pre-cups in my 98 and the thing runs like a raped ape.:agreed::agreed::agreed:

PS: i sell you a set of brand new bare heads( use the valves and springs from your old heads[ just give them a valve grind]) for $500 the pair.
Shipping might bankrupt you though.

I do not know anything about the seller for the Canadian link you have for ebay (Bostic Motors Inc) nor the country of origin for the casting/machining. However, the evidence suggests (based on markings on the block) that I had one of this sellers blocks in my suburban when I got it with a broken crank.

I have several threads on this engine, and they can be found here:

Question about block on DP:

Same question here:
http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?41218-Block-Identification

What I found when I tore it down:
http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?42695-Broken-Crank-Unknown-Block-Finally-Into-It

I'll let you draw your own conclusion. I don't know if the guy that built it knew what he was doing or if the block was junk. Either way it's worth reading over...

For whatever its worth.

I have used Clearwater Cyl Head in Florida

Used their heads and had good luck.

The ones I got were nice looking and worked fine.
