Duramax fan and clutch mount question

The 4 bolt fan clutch I have has a fan mounting of 3.25". The duramax fan I picked up is 3.75". Did every one slot the fan blade holes to mount the fan or is there a different fan clutch that will work. This is going on a 1995 Suburban with a 4 bolt fan clutch mount.

What year DMax fan did you get? I used an 02 DMax fan and it bolted directly onto a 97 fan clutch with no modifications needed. All 01 to 05 Dmax fans are the same part number in the Rockauto catalog. They will bolt onto all 4 bolt fan clutches, 96 and up until the water pump hub changed to the thread on hub. In 06 the part number changes. Maybe yours is a newer fan?

PS, Maybe they will even fit onto the 6.5 4 bolt fan clutches that have the thread on water pump hub. I never checked that possibility out.
 
I got the 1580690 fan that rockauto has listed for the 02 Duramax. The fan is a four bolt with 3.75 center to center. The clutch I have is for a 1994 with a 3.25 center to center. I even looked up a clutch for a 1997 model and 1998 model and both list a 3.25 fan mount.
 
The fan clutch for the 97 has a 3.81" bolt circle. The original clutch for the 94 has a 6" bolt circle for the 6 blade fan. What kind of fan did you truck have on it?
 
Is the Hayden 2839 clutch the correct one? My truck has the stock six bolt on it. I have a 94 4 bolt clutch, so I ordered the fan blade to see if it would work.
 
I ordered my fan and clutch combination from Kennedy diesel. Still didnt cool enough with a plow on the front. SO i did the fan clutch mod, and now it roars! I do remember when i ordered mine there was 2 different style fan shafts. I cant remember which is what for the years.
 
Apparently the 4 bolt clutch on your truck is not the origional clutch. I have a 94 K2500 and I had the stock 6 bolt clutch, as 96 oilburner also stated as being stock. The fan you got is the exact same fan I got. To be able to go with the DMax fan I went to NAPA and ordered their #TEM 271339 severe duty fan clutch for a 97. The TEM is listed in NAPA's online catalog as NAPA Temp Products. This all bolted to my stock 94 water pump with no mods needed.

I never measured the bolt pattern so I can't help in that aspect. I will say that I'm a bit dissappointed with the clutch. The spring doesn't have enough length to be able to do any more than just 1/8th" on the spring mod, which has proven to be not enough.

Like 96 oilburner, I would reccommend the clutch mod, especially if you intend to do any towing. You should also consider installing the HO water pump, if you haven't already done so. That's on my list of "to do's" as soon as I get the funds.

The napa 271339 has the wrong dimensions on there web site then. It lists the fan mounting as 3.25 also. I need to tow this weekend and know my clutch isn't good enough, which is why I had to figure this out. I am going to order the Heath cooling package for my truck later and put this fan and clutch on my 1991 6.2 when I upgrade. I couldn't believe that I found a delco clutch for 73 when the cheapest hayden 2839 was 140.
 
Let us know how it turns out. I need to do something to help my heat problem and I'm all ears needing info.

Three weeks ago I towed our TT (9K lbs) over the coast range to Newport. There are a few grades on that road, but not anything real steep. I exceeded 210 a little three or four times. At the campground I took the fan and clutch off. I was only able to change the spring length 1/8th", leaving only 1/8th" in the slot on the clutch body. Still never heard the fan come on on the way home. I tried another mod to see what will happen next time I tow.

any verification on this?

I am going to through a duramax fan on mine to be nice to her when I do the water pump. I am pretty sure the clutch is not functional on mine. Cleaning the rad sure keeps the temps down though!
 
Measure the bolt hole difference on the 6.2 clutch. It should be 3.25" and it won't work. I put my setup on yesterday and it solved my idling a/c temp problems. I didn't just want to replace with the same factory setup if I could go better. I think my truck has a cheap thermostat in it as it almost hits 215 before it opens and them bounces the whole time your driving. I have a new rs 330-180 coming. I think I will wait till I put it in to tow with it.

anybody knows if the rockauto fan # 1580692 is the 9 blades composite one too ? It is listed as the 2001 Silverado 1500 HD with the 6.0
 
I put the Duramax clutch and fan on. It made a huge difference on air flow and my a/c temp. The engine temp stayed at 200 after the fan and clutch. I ordered the delco thermostat, as a couple people suggested. Now my truck runs 185 all the time even pulling my 6000 lb tractor around town and my land. Just thought I would update this thread with the results.
