i was having trouble with the vacuum pump going bad so i was going to replace it but "mfgguru" gave me the idea of the Turbo master to eliminate the VP. So since it was bad i removed it and made a TM. Now the truck will run and after a drive i shut it off. When i go to start it up later it will run for a while and then stall. so i then pull over and try to start it again. it will run for about a minute and then stall again and not run. So i figured reset the ECM. So i disconnect the batteries and let it set for about 10min then reconect the batteries and cyle the key a couple times and then it will run with no problems. How can i eliminate disconnecting the batteries everytime. a little help please, thanks in advance

there is no way any diy t/m would cause stalling. not heaths, not home made, not anyones. it simply has to be something else. a bad vacuum pump or cracked vacuum lines would set a code but not cause stalling. what codes do you have. Ed

Sounds like PMD issue. Is your SS mounted on the intake?

ok its not throwing any codes. yes the pmd is mounted on the intake. not leaking any fuel. the vacuum pump is not on the truck its gone i removed it.

your pmd can fail without setting a code. have you got a spare pmd. how is the lift pump, on some trucks you would not notice it failed while on others it will give you issues. don't know what code reader you are using but some will not read all codes the ecm gives. i know before my ip went dead with a 1216 i had no ses light and no codes but gms tech2 picked up what they say are silent codes. Ed

sorry lift pump and ops are both new with in the last month or two. the pmd is new as off last year. i have another one but its bad i guess.

just cause the pmd is new doesn't mean it cannot be bad. mounted on the intake or on the pump itself is a lousy place to have it mounted. it should be out of the engine bay period. what kills a pmd is heat soak. the pmd will keep cool while on the pump but shut the engine off and temps rise. there is no fuel going thru the pump to cool it anymore. even with a pmd on a heat sink mounted on the intake also does the same thing as the rediator fan is no longer moving air in the engine bay. just a thought anyhow. Ed

Try moving your ss one out of the engine bay. SOmetimes that works. Probably too late. Since you already bought a heat sink just get a dipaco PMD. I got mine from Accurate for around 200$

Behind the bumper is the best place. As long as it is completely out of the engine compartment.

Stalling problems

well so far so good no problems yet. I dont know if it had a bug it just needed to be worked out or what. I am however planning to move the pmd to the front bumper, but going to figure out how to use my current heat sync. its from ssdieselsupply, so i dont know yet how is will do it but its in the thought process. Thanks for those who had helpful ideas.

The SSD heatsink is fine. Under the hood it just soaks up heat from the engine while running and after shut down - Pretty much the opposite of what needs to be happening to keep the FSD healthy. Once you get it out of there you have as good a heatsink as any other.

I had a SS diesel sink as well. I simply made some brackets and mounted it just inside the driver bumper nostril. Always cool to the touch.

Stalling Again!!

well still having problems. i guess in that week i didnt drive it that much. i will be driving now and the truck stalls. i can restart it and it will run fine then stall again and then i restart it. this keeps going on back and fourth and then its fine and it runs fine and i can drive it for miles on end with no problems. Im planning on getting the FSD out of the engine comp but need a plan. I dont want to buy another heat sync cause i already have one but how can i mount the one i have behind the front bumper?? I would like to see a picture of someone else that has done this already. Also does this problem i have sound like pmd failure???? please let me know and always thank you for the help. Im trying to learn all i can about these 6.5l

You have PMD issues. I think you need to scrap the one you have and buy a new Dipaco from Pensicola Diesel. Thier price and service are second to none. As for mounting you SS heat sinc, just go for it. Any way that works behind the bumper. Don't be worried about how it looks, as long as it is not going to fall off. It's behind the bumper and no one will see it. The main idea is to avoin the heat of the engine after you shut it off. Good luck.

IF anyone has any pictures of behind the bumper i would like to see them. Im going to try this sometime this week. If anything i will run the new cable in the cab and mount the heat sync some other time.
