My speedometer and tachometer are both starting to act up. The needles seem to stick a little on the way up and the way down, kind of like a second hand on a quartz clock. I assume that the stepper motors are starting to take a crap.

The latest that I read about the GM warranty for 2004s was a 7 year/70k mile "Special Coverage Adjustment". I am at 77,500 miles.

Does anyone know about an amendment to this warranty that would cover me past the 70k?
 
Doubt it. You could also go on ebay and get with the guy who repairs these and do it yourself cheaply.
 
just got my 04.5 fixed about a month ago, same issue. i had i thingk 78000 on it. they didn't blink an eye, ordered me a new one and called me when it came in.
holler if you want to know where, I think you are pretty close...

I need to carve out some time to go into the dealer. I have been working long hours lately, and haven't had a chance to get it in and looked out yet. I appreciate the leads on dealers who might work with me, as well as alternative choices to get it done myself.
 
Well, the dealer could not have cared less. The service manager said that the 70k limit is absolute. He also said that the truck has to have the ECM reprogrammed if the instrument cluster is removed, so I need to be sure and have the work done there to the tune of $500 or so. What a tool.

I'll pull this out myself and send it off as suggested above.
 
I got a letter that said they would pay for the parts if you paid for the labor or vice versa, cant remember witch way it was.

I hate when you get a bad dealer. makes you want to not buy that product any more.
 
FYI
You can still drive the truck with-out the cluster. Just need to figure out a way to see how fast your going...if you care:eek:
If you do, when you reinstall the cluster you will get a CEL. No big deal, it's just telling you it missed the cluster while it was gone...):h

Tool is right... ECM does not need to be reprogrammed to replace the cluster.

I'd see if you can find a better dealer before you write off warranty...

Does not.

The cluster would need to be programmed with your mileage and hours (unless they put a sticker on the door indicating cluster was replaced at XX miles and XX hours), but nothing needs to be done to the ECM.
