ive been tryin to find a coolant leak on my 04 LLY. It was coming from under the passenger side back of motor. I got under it and thought it was the block drain bolt on side of the block. I tightened it up a little more and still had leakage. Whats this mean??:noidea: I pinched the radiator hose the other morning and it was fine. Im just loosing coolant. my truck isnt running hot its just leaking and i cant fuggin figure it out!! It only starts leaking when the truck warms up to. Any ideas??????TIA

Have you checked where the heater hoses go into the cab? Also check the hoses on the EGR cooler, make sure the coolant isn't coming from there.

The easiest and quickest way to find your leak would be to get your hands on a cooling system pressure tester. It is basically a hand pump that you put in place of your radiator cap and then pump pressure into the cooling system. Once you pump air pressure into the system it will quickly find the leak for you as coolant will start leaking out from wherever your leak is and then you can go from there.

I have one from Snap-On (only because I used to turn wrenches for about 6 years) however you might be able to a cheaper one from your local parts store.

Hope this helps...

Another thing to check would be the turbocharger.

All turbos on the duramaxes are watercooled.

check all heater hoses, is the leak coming from the top of the engine or the bottom?
maybe egr system? check the radiator hoses too and what about thermostat or water pump?

Well I have been tracking it down. Its def coming from the back top of the motor. Somewhere in the middle on top. I can only see so far up.. Any ideas??

EGR cooler.

And the turbo cooling lines are also up there. The turbo is the big spinny thingy .hehe :;):

The EGR cooler is the big silver tube lookin thing on the pass side of the top of the engine. It runs from the back of the engine to up under the turbo inlet.
It has two rubber hoses that come off it that coolant flows through.
Yes you can get to it without removing the turbo, it runs along side it.

something else to think about is the water pump. i had coolant leaking from mine, runnin down the block and drippin off the back. the fan also has a tendency to blow stuff around the engine bay.

the pic below (yellow arrow) is the egr cooler. sits slightly below and to the left of the turbo. accessible without pullin turbo but it is a tight fit (at least for me :D) ....

i thought it may be a water pump too but it sounds like an egr issue maybe some type of heater hose is loose or old. can't they make something without an issue??
