All I can get are these Aluminum replacements from Auto Parts and GM discontinued it. The Aluminum one sucks. The heat is now luke warn. It used to blow me out of the cab. Anyone else have this issue ? KNow where to get a brass one ? I am going to see if my old one can be fixed. Been scrounging eBay for a NOS one. May have to try Staurn Supply or Boyce equipt. All this Chinese made garbage is really pissing me off.

Gotta remember Copper/brass cost more than aluminum, so naturally the ever cheap chinese companies that our stuff comes from go with the cheapest metal. Cheap parts + cheap labor + cheap metal = Cheap CRAP!!

I"ll look at the one i have here that's a spare from a gasser K5. I don't think it'll fit though. Weren't the core for the Non-A/C trucks different? This core came from an A/C equipped gasser. It's brand new, never been installed.

My blazer still has the original core in it(i think anyways), and your right the heat will roast the life out of you. I saved that core of mine once as i mangled the in/out tubes getting those stupid GM vertical screw clamps off the rotted hoses. Had to stick small box end wrenches in there to straighten the tubes to the point where they'd fit inside the hose tightly again.

post up the OEM part # Kenny...maybe between all of the members someone can find one...I'll start looking as soon as you post it. :)

1985-1986 CK HEATER & BLOWER ASM:
CORE, W/FITTING, HEATER
GM - 19131978
AC-Delco - 15-63318

That's what I come up with from the EPC; sorry about the caps, I just copy and pasted.

Call some dealers or maybe check gmpartsgiant.com

They have done a nationwide parts search for me before if they didn't have what I was looking for.

Most dealers also have that capability. Some won't do it, just as some dealers won't tell you the part number when you call

We used to have a local guy that would make whatever you needed. But he got tired of working and died.
Sure do miss him.

Thank's. I have no idea what the part #'s were I'd have to call Chevy back monday but I shot an email to both Boyce equip and saturn supply. They carry alot of NOS CUCV parts so maybe I'll get lucky. Mine can probably be fixed anyway. It only has slight seepage from where the nipple is soldered to the tank. Other than that is looks mint. My soldering skills are not good so I will take it to a rad shop Monday in the meantime. I cannot believe the one I installed does not throw heat but When I looked at it I had a bad feeling. It looks to me like the fins are waaayyy too close together for airflow to get through and radiate heat properly. Fortunalty it's a pretty easy core to change or I would be pissed. I got hot water going into it and hot water coming out but at best I get lukewarm air out of the heater. Man I never thought I'd see the day parts for these trucks would become scarce. Carquest in town, of all places showed the brass one in the pic but it was superceded by another part# with no pics So I am not getting my hopes up. They ordered it in for monday but it was nearly 50$ so maybe it's a brass one.

Aluminum trnasfers heat really well.

You may have another issue such as the adjustment on the cable that controls the blend door.

Missy

Never touched the cable. was able to change the core without unhooking the cables. It feels like it's moving properly. A guy I spoke to at one supply house said the chinese made ones didn't have some sort of coating that helps the heat transfer ?? It has heat just not hot at all. Before it would literally cook eggs. The new Aluminum one is half the thickness of the brass one.

I got a replacement rear heater core for my suburban from o reillys and it had copper fins.

As far as computers go, the copper heat sinks pull heat better but the aluminum heat sinks dissipate the heat faster. They've even got some with a copper base and aluminum fins. Don't know if that helps any.

Nope I'm wrong, the fins are aluminum. I was looking through a case that it fits in and the sides are copper or brass. And I bought it about 2 months ago.

I'm waiting to hear back from either Boyce or Saturn. I'll drop mine off tommorow to get fixed/checked. I checked the heat door cable. it is working properly. Nope it's the shitty aluminum made in china junk core. I knew better. I didn't want to put it in. I'll post pics whn I pull the POS out.

Nice, that's better than paying for one that don't work as good. How much was the aluminum one? around 40 to 50 dollars?

Good deal, glad you could get it fixed.

I am assuming that the core is different than a standard heater core for a Civy truck ???

Missy

Nope, same core just can't get a brass one anymore and the aluminum one sucks. Barely any heat. I will reinstall the proper one this weekend.
