I've been looking for some guages and I came across the Watchdog from Bully Dog. Is anyone using it? Opinions?

Would it be useful on our trucks? It states all OBD II trucks, but what does the computer in our truck monitor? Obviously this thing isn't going to make magic happen, but if our computer is already looking at boost, IAT, EGT, etc... Other than cost why not plug one of these things in?

What does the computer on my 97 K1500 look at or where could I get that information?

Thanks,

Keith

Edge also makes a comparable product(called the insight I believe) Both do essentially the same thing, they read parameters that the PCM see's and displays it in a format understandable to us. I don't know of too many people that run either of them though. Obviously, things like Rail pressure won't be available for our trucks, but it can read Boost, IAT, Coolant temp, oil pressure, battery voltage, and others. Even comes with an optional EGT probe which I think is worth it on its own. The ability to read and delete codes right in front of you is pretty damn valuable on its own too. And since its not completely integrated with the truck, you can disconnect it momentarily to help out a friend that also has OBD2, and it doesn't have to be just diesels.

Just remember, its not a tuner, no matter what the advertisements say. Display information it will, add 80+hp it will not.

Hey BigBlueChevy, I noticed in your signature you are running the Sunpro Sport ST. I have also been looking at that package. How do you like it? I started to shy away from it when I saw that it was a "universal" pillar mount. Did you have any problems with fitment?

First will come the guages, then I will worry about power. The idea of being able to read and clear codes is apealing. Spending an extra $135 for the pyrometer is not. Especially when that is a must from all I have read.

I actually do not run there universal pillar mount. I had bought a triple pillar from... Glowshift... I think it was for like $25. Chopped out the old A-pillar and bolted up the new one. It was only until I learned about the Sunpro Sport ST package from crankme69(here on the forum) that I bought there gauge package. I have to say I was really impressed. The gauges look great for one thing, but they all perform exceptionally well. Having trans, EGT and boost right there to see is great. Plus I can glance at them quickly without having to fully "look" at it when I'm out and about. Great on the trails when your in a mudhole with the engine at 3500rpms, and even better when pulling a load up a steep grade.

Only negative I really have to say about the A pillar gauges is there is not a whole lot of room back there for plumbing and wires. Then you add my overhead console wires and roof lights and it gets pretty tight back there. But I've never had an issue yet. I'll see if I can snap a picture or two tomorrow for ya.

Cool man. I appreciate the pics. They do look good, and at $179 I don't think I will be able to beat that. I think you were right about the Watchdog not getting much use, not much response to the post.

Thanks for your help.

PS. Love the quote in your sig.

No problem. The watchdog and Insight don't seem half bad too me. I think I googled both of them at least once and only a few threads came up. With basically the same question: "Anybody running this?" There weren't many responses to any of the threads. Hell I don't even remember seeing any product reviews. I suppose If I just had gauges I would consider the upgrade should they fail or break, but I have car Code as well so its not worth it too me.

The quote is actually a song By Darryl Worley. Its called "keep the change" I do love my country music:D
