18psi, 12 gallons of meth, 100,000mi+ previous tow use, and over 9000 miles of my abuse every day has finally shown the weakness of my 6.5 engine.

hole in pan, starter hanging...

so a new powerplant will be my main focus over the winter.

stronger, better, faster.

the Camaro sits, teardown to begin.

Hey man, if you're gonna scatter it, might as well do it right!:hihi::thumbsup:

Carnage pics to follow?:agreed:

Thats too bad

how big are your meth injectors and what ratio of meth were you spraying?

a Single 625cc nozzle and 49%meth/50% water Snow brand Boost Juice currently.

I worked my way up from 15% meth to that point(upped by around 10% each month until now)

progressive Meth(WMI) controller was set to start small flow at 12psi most recently, and full flow at 14.5-15psi.

I would have expected my IP to go long before the engine when it started making noise.

The engine has been eating a quart of coolant every month(cracked heads), getting worse, and about a week before this, I noticed a slight lower end knock(not a tap) develop. I knew it was gonna go soon, but not so violently. I did encourage the failure with my driving habits<--truth. Trust me I have been trying to break this thing for 9000 miles and it wasn't easy(she's a tough ol' girl). Call me reckless, I don't care. I love having reasons to build, and re-build.

Knowing this 506 block has already been bored 0.030" over, crank turned, undersized bearings(full rebuild in 2000 from previous owner); I wasn't hoping to salvage anything, would never reuse a turned crank, and I knew the cylinder heads are cracked and wouldn't reuse those. So basically, I haven't lost much.

Got enough spare 6.5 engine parts to fill one of my nice virgin 599 blocks, so that's the plan.

The first post was just a half hour after we towed the car back, so I haven't even got the car in the air yet. But you can see the hole in the pan and starter hanging from the block pretty easily.

I bet it's nasty in there. I will post pics of teardown and hopefully you guys can help me determine the failure point.

For diagnostic purposes: besides the coolant loss and slight knock, the car showed no signs of immenent failure before the actual event. All supporting systems were up to par(fuel supply, static timing, oil pressure, etc.)

my external Synapse 40mm wastegate has been dumping efficiently since dialed in. I did have difficulty with the 'gate when trying to control the added boost from meth(WMI) and how rapidly it climbs. I have always retuned the 'gate after every mod/change. could it have loved the cool air today, overcame the wastegate, and spiked to 20psi. Maybe. (fwiw the Synapse 'gate is most tuneable on the market)

I was pushing her hard when she failed. It involved a C5 and a stretch of highway. (shhh!)

on the upside I will save on insurance the rest of the fall/winter and have a nice running 96 truck to drive.

I like the note in your signature, not sure anyone else noticed!

Good luck with the build on the new engine. I've certainly enjoyed following your progress and admiring your work on the Camaro, hope to see it make people take a double take at fuel stations again soon.

thank you Dave.

C5 W/ a 6.5 in your future? :)
No intentions of ever building one.

Apparently my attitude has displayed an overall lack of care, recklessness, and no appreciation for the damage I have caused. I apologize if it came out that way.

I guess it's just my strong human instinct that tells me to test limits, experiment, and perfect.

I have conversations with my car all the time, she told me she was ready for a new heart.

I understand your attitude. If it breaks then you have a reason to make it better! :agreed:

If she wants a new heart then by all means give it to her. We all know how they gripe when they don't get their way! Hints the custom oil pan.... :hihi:

Seems she picked a good surgeon.
