Blown 40A Ign Fuse

Check the solenoid wire around the starter for shorting to the heat shield. Good time to check that the rear starter brace / bolt is in place.

Possible short in starter?

I'm with Leo ... a short in the armature will do this. But check all the easy stuff first... ohm out the solenoid wires to make sure there are no shorts in the wiring.

I am more inclined to think you got a bare wire and/or a short in the glow controller.

Starter solenoid small wire is the only one fused, that fuse is a small one

Like WarWagon said. These trucks commonly short out at the heat shield of the starter. I'd check the wire going from the battery to the starter.

I tend to agree with Simon the armature is powered directly from the batt no fuse. need to find a wiring diadram and see what that fuse supplies.

The 40 amp ignition fuse supplies the engine side of the ignition switch. As far as I know the starter trigger wire is not fused beyond the 40 amp ignition switch fuse as I don't remember having to wire through a fuse when I did my swap. If teh fuse pops when you go to start but not when you turn it on then most likely you have a short in the starter circuit. If it pops as soon as you turn the key on then I would suspect a chafed wire or a bad ignition switch.
