Best price on bilsteins for GMT400?

The concave portion should hold the rubber so as to cradle it. If you put them backwards it will distort and chew the rubber up, or pop when you hit bigger bumps.
 
by chew up and pop, are you talking about the stud and frame area, or at the washer? I did take care to get the shoulder part of the bushing into the frame hole, and havent heard any noises indicating the stud hitting the frame. the washer is quite smooth, so IDK what would chew the bushing up.

Unfortunately to do it right, I really need to have it jacked up to ensure everything is centered, correct? I am afraid If I try to flip the washer here in the parking lot, the rubber will pop out and let the shaft beat around and waller out the frame hole. justified concern, or worrying about the impossible? I can do it in the parking lot right now if you think the rubber will stay put.
 
The rubber will wear out rather quickly if it isn't in the washer correctly, and sometimes it will also give a popping sound from the rubber moving to much from not being in the washer correctly.
 
I´m suprized no one has mentioned KYB Monomax Shocks in this thread? I have them on both my Subs and think they are great. They are a litlle bit cheaper than the Bilstein HDs but every bit as good IMHO. Check em out!

do they have a lifetime warranty like the bilsteins? In fact, do any shocks have a lifetime warranty like bilstein?

that is a biggie right there, as long as they stay rust free, the fleet of pickups will be around for many years, so lifetime warranty may get to be used once.
 
This got me wondering as I own 8 KYBs and didn´t know about the warranty. Well I checked and yes the Monomax shocks have a lifetime warranty.
 
CARQUEST carries the KYB's. I've used them in the past and they are decent shocks that easily outlast GABRIELS and MONROES. I still feel the BILSTEINS are better, but the KYB's are ALOT less money.
 
If I could get the Bilstein 5100s for my trucks I would go back to Bilstein. I just don´t think the HDs are any better than the Monomax. Well anyway I don´t think you can go wrong with either one both are good shocks.:thumbsup:
 
I will keep the KYB monomax shock in mind on the next truck. If I get the title, and get it running, I will have identical chassis and cab spec 3/4 tons (94 and 96 C2500HD, different color and gear ration, but otherwise both ECLB 6.5L 5spd 2wds.) that would be awesome to put one brand on each truck and see how it does.

just need money.... :)
 
ok, got the washers flipped, tightened nut down till I ran out of threads, which made it squish out to almost the same diameter as the washer, so I think I am OK. the bushing didnt look like it had any wear on it, so I am guessing Bilstein made it so you run out of threads when it is properly tightened?
 
Found the 'EINBAUANLEITUNG' or Intructions.... Err I think? Does this look to be what was included with your shocks?:

I saw where you note what 'type No.' you have and look at the 'chart' in the last few pages to see the stack-up.

Not so easy to decipher... A little misleading perhaps.. They are calling for a torque spec based on the stem size which suggests it all tightens against some sort of shoulder.

I think you will be just fine with all the cup washers flipped how they need to be.

Did Bilstein include locknuts? If so, good.
