I learned a important lesson.. bearings have limits..lol.. and just cuz your engine can do the job doesn't mean it's a smart idea.. first picture is of the machine we decided to haul... Second picture is of the trailer we used... Third picture is the truck I towed it with...all the rest is what's left of the bearings from my differential pinion..the bearings in the trailer are destroyed also hence why it's up in the air... Evidently there is a little pilot bearing on the front of your pinion gear.. and when it disintegrates it gets into the inner and outer bearings of the pinion.. with the 4-10 full floating rear end the truck pulled it with no problem except on the hills of course.. until the last eight or ten miles at which time the axle started talking to me and it did not have anything nice to say LOL.

Thankfully we were not pulling it that far or probably would have done more damage

Yes I stayed with four tens.... They've served me very well.. the trucks only two wheel drive so I don't need the dig in power like in the mud... And with the four tens I kind of have a combination of good highway speed but plenty of torque when I need it

I got lucky and found that bearing cage in pieces doing an oil change, just before I hauled a similar load, I grossed out at 35960 lbs. I would have driven the tractor the 30 miles had I known it was that heavy.

Yours was likely heavier.

Did you leave it 4:10's ?

I am planing to change to 3:42's but it will cost a bit more to do both front & rears for me...
I ran 3.42's w/lockers front & rear for better than a decade and never towed anything over 5k and went to 4.10's because I traveled less spending more time off road. I'm going back to 3.42's on my conversion because the Cummins peak torque output is around 1.5k and again will not tow more than 5k.

Well, its good you caught it before more damage. Is the carrier a locker?
