My 05 Yukon was experiencing water intrusion about a year or two ago. Specifically in the cargo area from the vents in the D-pillars as well as the electrical penetrations for the rear lift gate. I utilized a Home Depot exterior grade clear silicone sealant which seemed to work well for a year or so. When I put on the Escalade D-pillar covers I noticed the previous caulk is now deteriorating and peeling right away leading to more water intrusion.
I need a sealant to put around the rubber boots to help seal the stiff rubber components to the painted body. Other places are from plastic vent panels to the painted body. What is truly an "automotive" quality sealant that I can get at least a few years out of? Id prefer a clear sealant, but could do black as the Yukon is painted black. I have true GM seam sealer, but to me that's more for adjoining or lapping metal body panels and is also white in color.
