Question is as the title states.

We got a 1995 PSD C&C F450 w/ the ZF5, and it has a dead hole, and we have heard that valve guides dropping are the most common issue w/ a dead hole. is this true?

If so, how bad do you think things are internally? (we think they drove it a while like that)

I havent heard of that happening a lot. Just pull the head and inspect, shouldnt be too bad

Ive always pulled the head and disassembled the valves to look at the guides and seats and stuff while I was there

If you had a bad valve guide wouldn't you have excessive smoke as well as excessive crankcase pressure?

You should we had our 93 IDI 7.3 drop a valve guide and it smoked bad and ran terrible. We replaced the entire head do to the fact the piston was beatin the valve up pretty bad. Pull the head and check
