Anyone pull a 4L80-E valvebody? I have questions...

I need to swap the shift shaft out on a 4L80-E, and to remove the retaining pin the plate under the valvebody has to be lifted...meaning I lift the valvebody.

If I have the transmission perfectly upside down, blocked, with the valvebody on top, can I lift it off, do what I need to do to the shifter shaft, slap a new gasket onto valvebody plate and torque it back down?

The whole upside down and blocked thing is so I don't disturb the checkvalves/balls.
