anyone ever take the valve covers off without puling the intake?

No, if you bend them you can ruin them.

Intake is a cake job to remove, just plug the ports - trust me, plug the intake head ports!

FWIW, I blow out all around the runners before removal to clear loose crap from falling in before you can cover the ports.

What do you use to plug holes/ports?

I've been using nerf balls, sponges and a variety of plastic/rubber caps and plugs I keep in a 2' tool box

I use blue shop towels, the paper towel looking things they sell at the parts store. Just kinda wad it up and stuff it in the port.

I dunno Kenny. Ratman's engine got ruined by a shop rag i believe. Then again i don't know if it was one of those blue "shop towels" or an actual rag.

I supposed if it got caught and held the valve open and the piston hit it. Dunno, aint gonna find out either...

His was an actual rag, IIRC.

I resealed my passenger side valve cover without removing the intake. I removed the a/c compressor and very gently pulled the injection lines up enough to clear the valve cover. Just take your time when reinstalling the valve cover so as not to disturb the sealant.
