I would like to ride in and/or drive a well tuned 6.5L powered truck or burb so I can see the potential.

I have driven both 7.3L and Cummins powered trucks and really like them. :D As I was warned before buying it, I am dissapointed in the power of the 6.5.:( I have read some posts about guys doing burnouts? Not happening with the burb! :nonod:

With the help and suggestions of you guys I have spent the last year and a half fixing up this burb and have her in pretty good shape. Since I have it in good condition I don't really want to sell her without valid review of her potential.

Maybe there is something that I am misssing? While mine starts and runs smooth it is rediculous when she is working to pull hills with a small trailer where my 7.3 from work would barely notice the hill with a larger trailer.:nonod: I don't know what it should run like since I have never even rode in another 6.5...(Folks around here seem to really hate the 6.5)

If I can't make it much stronger I am going to be pushed to replace the old girl. I hate to do that since I do enjoy this group of great folks and all the help and advice that we are able to trade.

Thanks in advance.

I have a '99 Suburban. I have a Heath programmed ECM and an A Team Turbo on mine in addition to all the cooling and exhaust goodies that you have. It performs well and will keep pulling a load up mountains without defueling. It's hard to keep my foot out of the pedal as it's fun to drive.

My k1500 with most of the same mods has pretty good zip and will break mud tires loose under hard acceleration. My truck is lighter than Your burb though, att is on its wish list I just cruise slow everywhere and try not to get above 1800-2k on accel and cruise no faster than 64 (my trucks sweet spot), towing it does good but won't pull anywhere close to my Dmax like some say it could with att.

Well, I'm in Spartanburg, if ya get down this way, I'll give ya a ride......

What gears does the burb have??? What egt's are you seeing ?? How much boost ?? If things are close to stock in the ecm area, a different tune would help a lot, if you still have the stock tune, you will need something more for more power.

I pretty sure they are 3.73s. I am just over 1800rpm at just over 60mph. I don't know egt yet. Have purchased the gauge. Have not had time to install it. Boost maxes out at about 10 psi and drops right away. Typically 5psi. Apparently stock tune. Or detuned.. Thanks. I do occassionally get down that way. I will try to remember to ping you the next time I do.

I cruise pretty slow a lot of the time too. But, accel onto the highway or passing is terrible. I have to really plan ahead because she has no 'get up & go'. :disappointed:

IMO, I would put a TM from Heath.

I had similar issue with yours and when I did that, it never have any problem with get up and go.
I know most people don't like TM but I will never look back.

It has a #7 in it now. I have a #9 that I can stick in there. I just havn't thought about it anymore after reading a thread that said it wouldn't help.

I have thought about the TM. Will the stock tune not defuel since mine is a 99? I have an HX35 that I thought I was going to put on but I am yet to figure out if it is a 14 or 16cm exhaust housing. Supposedly it is not an upgrade unless it is a 16?? If anyone knows how to tell please fill me in.
Thanks!

For the size of housing, look where the housing bolts to the manifold, on the inside there will be a # cast into the housing, should tell ya what size it is.... also it is cast in the part # also on the outside.

I am not sure who you heard that it will defuel.
It will defuel if you don't set it correctly.

I have a stock ECM/Tune in mine. I set it at what Heath suggest which is 2.5" on the spring (actually a tad more like 2.51")
It will max the pressure around 8-9 psi and never defuel.
It will give a 78 code (OBD-I for Turbo Wastegate Actuator Solenoid) but never hinder any performance.
What most people who does not know anything, they will set it as if it has a reflashed ECM and set it more to like 12 psi.
At that point, it will defuel.

Moral of story, follow the instruction.

By the way, more pressure does not mean better performance according to a post a few years ago.

Yes, another turbo will be good but I don't have the money to buy one nor the ability to fabricate something to accomodate a different turbo.

We may have to make my way thru Statesville sometime soon. We have friends in Huntersville that we need to visit anyway.

There is a lot of back and forth about if TM is better or not on OBDII. If I go with the Holset I will have to make a TM anyway. So it would help to see how one runs first. I have invested a lot into this thing and don't want to continue until I know that it has the potential.

Thanks guys!
