I'm from Riverside, CA. I'm new to the 6.5 engine. My motor is blown. I'm looking for someone that has connections to parts and/or information on my motor that is in my area. If you know of anyone, let me know. Thanks, this site rocks!

not much help on who but if the block is not cracked I'd align hone it and get a scat crank and leave the rest alone. Pistons are realatively expensive for 6.5s

they want 1200 to align bore and say it needs bored. the cam and crank are ruined, so basically theres not much left.by the time i buy pistons, bearings etc im in almost 3 grand. i found a guy in ala. that has take outs for 1600.oo but still would like a guru somewhere close.i got the truck almost for free so its still worth it to me to save it.

1200 to line bore is nuts sounds like a place to avoid. Do some searching on this site there are quite a few guys using military 6.2 takeouts and swapping over the necessary parts

Why did the mains spin? Blown oil cooler lines? Too long oil drain intervals? Overheated?

What year are we playing with?

A take out 6.2 from http://www.boyceequipment.com/ is $950.00 plus shipping. Pull the heads and replace the head gaskets with the 6.5 style. Use your 6.5 injector lines and get your 6.5 injectors rebuilt and balanced. If you have a electronic injection pump that will have to transfer over - if it is any good. (1994 years and up are electronic. look up PMD relocation as well if 1994+) Nice if your 6.5 heads are not cracked - use them if you can. If not the later 6.2 heads can work.

A rebuilt 6.2 to 6.5 turbo equipment is $2500 from Heath diesel. add ceramic coated pistons and blueprint balance for more money and performance. A 6.5 is no more than a bored out 6.2. No one says you have to keep the turbo. Likely it is trash from the bearing failures anyway. Look up the A Team turbo, ATT, on this site and get it vs. a GM replacement 'exhaust plug' turbo. Or go Naturally aspirated if your budget is bad...

Take out 6.2 injector length is too long on 6.2's and Precups may be different. This is why you need the 6.5 injectors. You will have to re-time the IP with different injectors if you keep the 6.2 IP. 1982 heads have course injector threads and can't be used.

Unfortunately, you live in one of the most expensive and most regulated state.

Fortunately, the weather there is very mild.

Unfortunately when I lived in the LA area I didnt find the right place which is what led me to learn as much as possible myself, because I had to pull my truck North to where I live now.

If it were me I would get the cheapest running take out, or go to dieseldepot.com and get the 6.2/6.5 hybrid any way you want it. I called a couple machinists around me now and they didnt even want to mess with a 6.5. There are some government auctions you might be able to take advantage of. There is actually a 95 6.5 in a local junkyard by me which the guy said ran when he parked it there, Ive pondered getting that engine and making it my own project.

A rebuilt engine install basically costs about what most members here are willing to pay for a running truck. If the body and interior is all good then its still worth it to drop a known good rebuild in there.

I'm in Fullerton, about 30 miles west of you.

Spun bearings? I wouldn't touch that. I'd get a new GEP and install that, the rest of my truck is clean.

i got the truck for next to nothin.the previous owner put on new heads, our guess is he didnt drain the oil, and he let water get down in the pan,so when he ran it ,the first thing it picked up was water.either way im gonna find a take out somewhere and drop it in. i had no idea they were so scarce.thanks for all your replies, ill take any suggestions at this point.ill keep you updated on my journey. thanks again.
