I have a 10 year old in dash CD/Mp3 receiver made by Alpine that has suffered a casualty. The 'Bio-lite' display has bit the big one. It's actually a well documented common problem.. Everything else on the unit is perfect, just can't see to make any adjustments which is no fun.

I have the thing apart and the display looks easy enough to R+R. Just gotta find a new one first!

What it 'should' look like:

Your escort rocks! :D

There was a ebay seller that 'had' a display, they sold it. Found it on a bing search.

Me thinks parts are a dryin' up. Still looking.

Had to really dig in there to get the front panel off:

They sell the cd transport. But I'm not sure if this is your 'entire' problem.

You totally have 3 of these??? Man we need to talk. My display is dead.

I can probably slavage and or order some parts and get our junk up and running again. Maybe? :dunno:

One had the radio antenna booster go bad too. Mine are slightly different than yours after I went and looked at my face plates. I like my alpines but I'm not a fan of taking that stuff apart and the quote from the electronic store was gonna cost enough that buying a new head unit made more sense.

I've got an alpine in 4 of my trucks, 93,95,00,and the 8.1l 01 farm truck. The one in the 01 is closest to yours and if still works most the time. The other 3 each have a problem of some sort which sucks since 2 of them look brand new.

Keep Looking on Ebay for Parts. These Decks are AWESOME, and even Used, are still Pulling over $400.

It's been a good one. I run it in my camaro to an Xtant 3300c (x), polished cover. It powers the whole system, JL stealth box 10w6, Mb Quart Q series 6.5 components, 6.5 Mb Comp midbass in rear pillars. Sounds real good.

Tanman, the 7998 display is very similar to the Alpine CDA-7897 but the display will not interchange.

Les, what is your 7998 hooked up to, like what's the system setup?

just the stock speakers. it was in a 99 tahoe I bought. I took it out and put the factory set up back in, it sat around for a few years and then I put it in my beater Escort as the radio in it didn't work

Heres another view of a 7998, see how it's a motorized face? It retracts fully and it looks like nothing is in your dash when powered down. It's good if you live in the 'hood.. :D

Internally, you can see how the deck swallows it's own face.. :D

Say Wha? :skep:

Old old old thread. These displays have been out of print in the parts aftermarket for quite some time. Somebody way smarter than me could probably fix these on a component level. (resistor, FET, transistor, IC chip, etc)
