ABS Sensors & Rumble Strips

I was driving through a construcction zone and around the paving crew we were forced to drive with the LH side on the rumble strips for about 1/4 mile. It set off the ABS light. After the first key cycle it was gone. Anybody else seen this?
 
can be an indication that your bearings/hubs are starting to reach the end of their life. A slight side to side wobble from the "harmonics" of rumble strips can confuse the sensors.
 
LH front has never been replaced. It was plenty tight when I last did lube around 5k ago. I am surprised it has lasted this long. RF went 2 years ago. I haven't seen the light come back since though. Near 1k additional miles.
 
Odd ball like that happened to mine about a week before total failure, ABS came on, I checked it all out sensor read ok with meter noting seemed odd about the wheel though it did have a change in vibes that cleard up when I increased speed through 65 mph to cruise speed of 75, I couldn't figure out what was going but the week later I turned a corner at 25 mph thankfully; and the pass front wheel turned 90 degrees from direction of travel and the axle nut had popped off, tucking wheel up & into the wheel well.

I thought this was pertinent to the OBS trucks, the repair shop said common enough for him to see it happen multiple times over the years bearing starts to go fuzzes up the ABS magnetic sensor. Jack that front end up and give it a thorough inspection
 
I may not be noticeably bad right now, more like microscopically bad. The harmonic vibration of the rumble strips was probably just barely enough to trip the abs light. The sensors don't tolerate much excess movement at all.

If you've got 170,000 miles on the left side I'd say that was probably the culprit. Not saying it's going to fall off tomorrow, but as the months go on and the abs light comes on again after hitting a bump or another rumble strip I'd start considering replacing it.

A curb near a fuel stop in DesMoines 2 1/2 years ago, An out of round tire before that didn't help.:mad2:
Thing is, I really tried hard to get top to bottom movement out of that LF a couple of weeks ago and it was tight. I'm thinking it's the 6 winters that have the sensor getting tired. I'll have to look at it and try the top-bottom shake again.
 
Jacked it up tonight and checked the top to bottom play again. Both sides are tight as new. I'll check the sensor next time I rotate tires. About 9k from now. I do rotate and lube every 15k.
