A little maintenance before att install, couple questions

Could be air in that line. Try bleeding it a the injector nut.

If it still knocks, swap it with a different injector. That will tell you if its the injector or not. Occasional bad new parts are not unheard of.
 
will l ive taken your advice and swapped in one of my old injectors and its still knocking, i cracked the nut to let it bleed as well. Where do i check next? the line kinked? seemed like plenty of fuel was coming out when the line was cracked.

So if you crack the nut at injector #6, does the sound go away?

And sorry I was not very clear- What you need to do is swap #6 new injector with any other injector that you know is not making the sound, say #1 because its easy to reach. The problem with using an old injector is that it might be chattering the seat just like the new injector that is in question. if #1 does not make the sound and you install that injector in #6 hole and the sound is still in #6 the you have eliminated the injector as the culprit.

I have only seen a bad line cause a noise 1 time, but there was visible dent in the line causing an obstruction.
Try using the screwdriver stethoscope (a real mechanics stethoscope works a lot better) to listen at the valve cover and then at the block down close to the oil pan and about 1" below the head at #6. possibilities are lifter, pushrod, rocker arm, rocker arm button, wristpin, or rod bearing. The rod bearing is usually obvious it is down so low in the engine. a wrist pin sounds like a sharp exhaust leak. Any of the others will be heard I the valve cover, and all require removing the cover to chase it.

How outstanding is the noise? Is it 170k miles on this engine?
 
It's nothing crazy and not consistent at all. It's funny that before the swap I didn't have any noise at all. Ive done the screwdriver on the injector and at times it sounds great and randomly it will chattered.

In hind sight, I recall that I had increased injector noise after swapping in new units...sorry, it took a while to get that to sink in but the 'Chatter' reference vs. Knocking brought that memory to the front. Like Will said, let em run for a month or so (after swapping number #2 and #6 positions) and monitor the noise.
Did you have them pop tested for balance prior to install?
