I always thought that with the vent hose on the filler neck it would run back out of it and on the ground till the level was at the tank rather than the top of the neck!

I was going to post the same, but you beat me to it. It can fill up the charcoal filter canister on the evaporative system.

On these new ('05) gassers, one click and done. I've destroyed two evaporative systems this summer because I was ignorant.

Seen it all the time when I was a Mac tools guy going into all the different shops each day. I don’t think there was ever a week where there wasn’t a car/ truck in there because they “topped off”.
Not a good idea.
