I have a 95 3500 HD with a 454 throttlebody that needed a new transmission. It came with a transmission when I bought it after installing it it will only shift first second and in reverse, but does everything perfectly. I guess the shaft for the range selector is different or from what I'm seeing, the 92 version of this truck does not have the Raine slot on the side of the transmission. There is a change on the internal parts at some point, so even though the plug will plug into the side of the transmission, it's not communicating correctly with the computer from the truck… And the transmission control module is actually part of the computer on these trucks from what I understand. What is the easiest way to achieve third gear and even overdrive? I have actually used a toggle switch before in a different application, but I was trying to avoid that if there's another way possible that's not too labor-intensive.

Yes 92 and 95 will be totally different on the internals. different internal harness, solenoids and iirc valve body as well. there are some things that can be done to make it work, but it's a lot of work.
