I have a 78 C20 with a 454, new distributor, wires, plugs,e r valve, and it still runs like crap. Just for it to be drivable, I have to unplug vacuum line from egr valve and advance distributor about 20 degrees. Any ideas?

Had truck since 2010. Was running great, then it wasn't . Hasn't sat long enough for gas to go bad

Get a vacuum gauge on there:

That's kinda what I was thinking too. Well, guess I know what I'm doing this weekend. Thanks for the advice, I'll post my findings when I open it up

Could something with the EGR be leaking? Do you know the propane or brake cleaner test?

Yeah, I tried the propane thing, even replaced egr valve

Who installed the distributor? I agree it's likely a tooth off. Triple check the 18436572 firing order on the cap?

I installed distributor. Checked and double checked firing order, cause kept thinking it must be something simple like that.
Jumped a tooth still sounds most likely, but I'm guessing that means the chain is worn
