Im putting together a suburban with a 6.2 and 700r4 for my my girl friend so she has something that has more room for our little boy and im wanting to make it as simple to drive as possible for her. i have a 92 700r4 that i just built but i have it setup for a toggle switch for the lockup and she wont have clue how to use that so im looking to build aan early 700 that has hydraulic lockup. i have a good case and i believe i have the valve body still. my question is can i use all of the internal parts out of the 92 in the older case? it was a 27 spline originally and the parts ended up scattered everywhere so piecing it back together with original parts is probably out of the question. It has 3 pressure switches in the valve body for 2nd, 3rd and 4th and it locked and unlocked as it should when it was together all i had was a brake switch and power to the trans i didnt have a toggle switch or any thing it had constant power. If i can put all the later parts in the early case and have the hydraulic lockup im wanting id be set.

Wire the lockup circuit through a fourth gear pressure switch that you can add to the VB. TC will lock when in 4th only.

I've seen this done also with a pressure switch threaded into the 4th pressure test port on the outside of the trans case.

I could do that but it will lock as soon as it goes into 4th and i dont want it to do that. The early 700 with the hydraulic lockup will shift into 2nd 3rd or 4th and then lockup after getting going a little faster in that gear. It will be wired like that but i want the older setup with the valve in the valve body for lockup also.

So basically i just need to know if all the internal parts from the newer case will work in the early case.

IIRC there is a passage from case to pump that needs to be addressed. Foggy memory, either it gets drilled or plugged.

Other than this potential road block, swap away.

Are you thinking of the oil feed that goes from the pump to the auxiliary valve body? The older one doest have the auxiliary valve body so your right that it would have to be plugged.
