6.5TD DB2 vs 6.2 DB2

OK Thanks to some info from Missy the DB4 Marine IP for the 6.2 might as well be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Never find one and if I do....more than I can afford so DB2 off a 6.5 sounds like winna winna winna.
 
i"ve also read that the "DB4" is only available from peninsular, and that it needs to be mounted 180* from normal, meaning custom injector lines
 
I saw them mentioned on Peninsular's marine build but their website is under construction. I may call them tommorow. I just gotta know...

I would save yourself the headache of trying to make a db4 work and go with a very capable known unit in the 4911 pump. It should supply sufficient fuel for your needs. If you are running short injectors from a 6.5, then the lines off of the 93 6.5td where you find the 4911 will work on the 6.2 head. No worries, no headaches. Just my .02
 
isn't there some jerk with a mech. inj. 6.5 in a C10 or something like that making 300 hp to the wheels with an HX or HY holset? Chevydieselguy or something like that?
 
Oh yess 230 is very easy.

300 to the wheels is gonna be a stretch if ya dont want to melt the thing.

300 shaft power is easy with long term reliability too.

With extremely careful use, power levels approaching 400 shaft power can be reached but this level is gonna be iffy.

The crankshaft was never designed to deal with this sort of power.

A forged crank, fully girdled lower end and a way to get rid of the heat and you can do it
quite easily.

A DB4 pump calling the shots on the fuel and a turbo such as a Holset or ???? other good one and a good aftercooler to keep the IAT's in check.

A 4inch Plus exhaust to let the air out of the beast would be a necessary item too.

Just some thoughts.

230 with the 4911 is well within reason.

My DaHoooley is making far more than that with the Heath chip, Banks exhaust and the Turbomaster controling the GM4 turbo.

Shortly after I installed the Heath Chip (Before the rebuild this summer) I had the truck dynoed locally and it was making 230 RWHP for one run and the second run was 225(engine hot) ???

Not sure if anything has been done to the IP such as an optical bump or ???

3-1/2" Banks exhaust with Banks performance airfilter and snorkel Mod.

I would love to try the truck now with a fresh engine to see if the numbers are the same or ?????

In stock trim the 6.5 was sold with near 200HP (195) so getting another 30 would be quick and easy.

As others have said, 230 HP should be easy with any 831 series DB2. Just to clarify 6.5 DB2s came in 3 basic plunger sizes. 6.2 used .029, 6.5's use .031 and the "marine" pumps use .033 plungers. All you have to do is look at the tag and it will tell you the plunger size. It will have DB2-831-XXXX. The 8 after DB2 stands for 8 cylinders, the nest two digits are the plunger size. So a DB2-831-4911 has .031" plungers. Really any 831 DB2 will work on a 6.5 Turbo, the timing is changed model to model but really not enough to make a huge difference. I ran a 5088 pump (which is a 6.5 NA pump) for a while on a 6.5 TD and was very pleased with it. Any pump good rebuilder can alter the timing to 4911 specs if that is what you want. If you want 250-300 HP then I would go for the 033 plungers, but .031 pumps are much easier to find.
