Got bored. Decided to upload a video. Started in 2nd gear kind of rolling. Finished in 5th. AFE Stage II, Full Boar 4in exhaust. DB2-4911 turned up 1/4 turn. Optimizer 506 NA block and assembly from Teds Trucks. Max boost was 18psi. EGT probe in downpipe right after turbo. Gauge never exceeded 600* or approximtely 900* near piston temp. Truck made 203rwhp and 331ft lbs on a Mustang Dyno. 1993 K3500 Regular Cab Long Box Single Rear Wheel. 4:10 gears. NV4500.

It does alright for what it is and whats been done to it. My ATT got back to me. I just need to find a break from the homework to run 2hrs home and install it back on. I am hoping with the ATT to get a bit more fuel into the motor when all is said and done. She is burning all she has now very well. Almost a little too clean haha I figure within a few months I should be back on the dyno. My next goal is 220rwhp. Time will tell. I like setting goals. They give me motivation.
 
Looks pretty good to me especially for your mods, and nice shifting too, I can never shift that fast or smooth, I like how you started rolling in 2nd, its hard to make it seem fast in a standard when you have to start from a stop :)

All these videos lately make me wanna record mine, but not until its ready :)

Ever have the truck on a scale? My RCLB 2500 with the NV4500 weighs exactly 5800 lbs with me in it, and I am very light. I would assume your truck is very similar in weight, probably a bit more because its a one ton.

Actualy I have put it on the scale. It weighs almost exactly 6000lbs with me in it and a full tank of diesel. And that wasn't smooth shifting at all. I usualy shift ten times smoother but when it comes to speed, sometime you got to bang gears. And I have no problem starting from a dead stop but as I pulled out onto the highway I was just about ready to stop and looked in my mirror and saw a dump truck rounding the corner heading towards me at 65mph lol I was ready to get out of there haha.

I know what you mean about the highway, everytime I wanna do something similar there is always someone coming.
 
Well I have them in my garage (I think)

I don't have a whole lot really. I just rebuilt the motor, and put in ARP main and head studs, and 2" of Hardblok in the block. I also have a homemade air intake, a custom intake, a HE351VE turbo, FTB on the DB2, which is cranked up all the way, hopefully a much hotter pump soon, 4" exhaust, and coolant, EGT, boost, fuel pressure, and drive pressure gauges.

Not much done other than that, besides the airlift air bags in the rear.

Not much but a lot of $$$ :) at least for a college kid
 
Yeah I hear ya. College is draining my funds as we speak. Just finished up some useless Chemistry haha. And that is a decent amount of parts. Once they are all together, it should be a running truck.I got to thinking, I am gonna turn my truck into sort of a project. Mostly to see what the physical limit of these motors are for as little money as possible. It seems most people dont have the time or money to do much to there truck internaly. I am gonna see exactly how much power I can crank out of the average 6.5L without tearing into the internals or heads and stuff. Time will tell.
 
Well you certainly have started out with the one of the best engines, so I would imagine you can push that Optimizer pretty far, I am anxious to see how it goes, especially with the ATT. I am pretty much in the same boat, I would like to see what I can do for as little money as possible but unfortunately it has added up quickly. I have never told anyone online this yet but so far I have a little over $8500 poured into this thing, including the truck itself. $2000 alone comes from only three things: when the stealer fixed the fifth gear loss in the tranny, when the stealer inspected the truck for the first time in my possession (hadn't been inspected in a while, and they raped me pretty bad), and licensing and registering the truck.

I have been meaning to get pictures up of the rebuild, I took a ton of pictures. The block already had a large crack in the #2 main journal and at least two pistons had very small hairline cracks in them, but they went back in haha. Maybe someday when I have more money I will do it much better, but so far so good knock on wood has almost 4k miles on the rebuild. Also forgot to mention I converted over to solid flywheel with new clutch, as well as year 2000 water pump, and Duramax fan.

EDIT: ha and oh yeah, college is a huge drain, I am not even half way through yet. I think I spend more time on this site than I do studying though. I usually sit in class and think of the next thing I wanna do on the truck
 
Yeah. I just got my ATT back. Just finding time for the drive home now to install it is my issue. Yeah, I have been impressed with the Optimizer block so far. For being a NA block type, it has ran amazing under boost and my headgasket survived a 18psi boost load in the video run. I never run it above 13psi 99% of the time though. I can understand running money up. I bought the truck for $2000 with 348K miles on it. Original motor and tranny. Whoever had it before me also converted to a solid mass flywheel thank god. I spent $250 on my AFE Stage II, $350 on my 4in exhaust, $250 on my gauge set. I spent about $40 making my homemade turbomaster. I can adjust it to any psi I want. Just need two half inch wrenches. $950 for my ATT with the turbo blanket. Another $2000 for my Optimizer. Another $500 or so for just random things I fixed on the truck between motors. $250 for a new clutch. It adds up but this is my dream truck. It may not be in the best shape now but over time I am going to make it extrodinary. Your motor seems to be holding up good all things considered. Can't be upset about that. Mine has almost 3500 problem free miles on the rebuild now. Running strong. and yeah a lot of my time I sit in class and "window shop" parts for my truck. It's addicting.
 
Hre is kind of a crappy picture of the homemade wastegate controller. Aint nothing special. Just cut off the can, re-used the backplate for the spring, cut the rod and welded some all thread to it, spring, some washers, and two nuts to hold it all together. She works great though. Hope this turns out. My computer is being stupid.

Ha yeah, things do add up, and the picture turned out good.

Unfortunately I think my truck had a terrible life when it was young. Someone treated her pretty badly. Oh well, more of a challenge for me, its nice at least be able to look at your truck and be able to say that you know it inside and out, and that you have the ability to work on it, and appreciate what it can do. Tinkering around with vehicles seems to be kind of a lost art, when you can just buy everything you want and have someone else do it.

And it is definitely addicting, I browse around the internet when I get bored, looking up 6.5 stuff. Last night I was watching youtube videos and we all know how that goes.
 
Nice video. Wish my truck was a 5-speed. Im in the same situation with college. Rent sucks, and having a Wrangler and Mustang at the same time dont help either! My Holset is sitting in my basement waiting for me to make a downpipe so i can install it.
 
Yes Deejaaa. Yes it is haha. Yeah I watch youtube video's of 6.5L's all the time. It was the determining factor in not straight piping my truck. I bought a diesel for being a diesel. I dont want it to sound like a big block gas motor. So I keep the muffler on her. I got a great video of the exhaust sound on my computer if you guys want me to upload it. It still sounds sort of gas motor like but it is tolerable. and yeah having a 5 speed is a beautiful thing. Yeah, it's a little more work. But when it comes to handling power I love having a manual instead of an automatic. And I love being able to pick any gear I want depending on what I am doing. Plus you can pull start a manual truck if need be. Which I usualy end up doing a few times every winter.
 
and yeah, my previous owner I dont think was the best on the truck but when all was said and done after it is fixed, it was nice being able to go through it and learn a lot. My father is a mechanic with his own shop so working on vehicles has kind of always been in my life. I aint great by any means but I can get done what I need to just fine. Plus having air tools and everything like that is nice. I have had my fair share of doing everything with just a wrench and it makes me appriciate air tools that much more. Also here is the video of my exhaust. The make is FULL BOAR. It is a 3in downpipe with 4in exhaust mandrel bent with muffler. $350 bucks. I can't remember where I found it. Great system though. Install was SO easy and straight forward. This video was with my old motor and bad injection pump which is why it smokes as bad as it does. It hardly smokes at all now. Even when I floor it.
