6.2L vs 6.5L--what say you?

I saw a 6.2 at the junkyard that the last three # on the rear of the block were 599 ,and it had a pipe plug were the turbo line would be. It is in a 93 van/bus. Would this be considered to be one of the better 6.2's ? Maybe it's a 6.5 ?

If its not cracked the 599s were considered some of the better castings, with a better metal content than others. The 929 blocks from the 95 year are about the same. Any used 6.5 block without cracks must be strong. I imagine half of the engines running strong right now have cracks that would keep you from strarting with them as a rebuild.

DaleA,
130 to 165 HP for the 6.2
180 to 215 HP with a turbo 6.5

You will not notice the 3 MPH difference towing with a 6.2 equipped with 6.5 turbo. Aka my repower project that only lost 3MPH with a used 6.2 dropped in. Before it had a 6.5...

If you have another choice beside the 6.2/6.5 for towing do it. Otherwise with a turbo the 6.5 and the 6.2 are the same boat anchor.
