So I want to know more about this High Output pump. I called and talked to someone at the Stanadyne Corp. and he said that it wouldn't put out more fuel overall. He said it was bsically a cam diff so it would put out more fuel earlier for towing etc. So I was wondering if anyone knows/has anymore info.
 
You can call Bill Heath and ask him, or look at Wester's Garage in Tilley, AB - search on that page for "1996-2003 6.5 Electronic Injection Pump TD"

92.8mm^3 - if you call Lyndon Wester, he'll help you with your thinking, too.

It seems to me that one of our members, Canadian Rigger, is getting close to 100mm^3 out of his.
 
On their site it appears he's advertising a pump with 96mm for about $1400 plus you'll still need to chip it. What does 100mm figure to in approx hp?
 
I honestly have no clue. Stuff like that is 'way above my pay grade... like I said, send a note to Bill Heath or Lyndon Wester. All I know is that it's doable.
 
I talked to Lynden at Westers and he told me he could make any pump flow 96mm so it's not just a 5068 pump. He estimated that it would increase crankshaft HP approx 100-110 hp. Now for the bad you have to do both the pump and chip at the same time $1395 for the pump $595 for the chip. Also I was wrong about the 96mm it is 92.8mm. Kind of sounded like he could make it put out more but felt like any more would blow the bottom out. Boy if money wasn't important do a Pennisular longblock with forged crank 18:1 cr ATT or maybe more. And then chip and custom pump WOW hang on!!!
 
So what your sayin is that it really doesn't make much of a difference which IP you have? I always thought the 5068 was the hot ticket item to have. Oh well...
 
IIRC, Lynden's hot IP is a 5521 with a 5068 cam ring. Several people have tried building them only to come back and say it's not feasible because they are too temperamental to adjust.

I don't want to hijack this (anymore than I already have:rolleyes5:), but let me clarify - at least to the best of my knowledge.

For argument's sake, I'll use the term "software" to define the actual program that you would run on your computer. "Programming" to define the parameters of a specific tune.

In the past, retailers were sort of the middle man with Wester's owning the software and doing the programming. Meaning retailers didn't do the programming themselves - a core was always sent to Wester's. Although to what extent they were involved in programming (requesting various parameters) I do not know.

Kennedy does his own programming "in-house" meaning he has the software. Now, did he buy it from Wester's? Maybe, I don't know. Wester's does offer it for sale - or at least they used to. But Kennedy has full reign to set his own parameters and make adjustments as need be. Maybe Heath has software as well? Not sure.

Can we get this one back on track - 5068 and other HO IPs? Tuning and programming the 6.5 is a very separate (and much speculated-upon) topic and really deserves its own thread. :)

Right again! I'm interested in this IP thread, as well.
 
Soooo I called and talked to Bill Heath this morning. Here's what he told me. He said the 5068 does not put out more fuel then any other pump. He said all the pumps will put out 89.9mm with the right programming. He also said that to his knowledge no one makes a modified pump that puts out more including Westers. Said he bought one to check it out. He also said that even if their's did put out 92.8mm that you'd be hard pressed to see the difference. He said that if their was a high output pump he'd have put it on his land speed truck.
 
Here's my update I've pm Canadian Rigger about his IP and he has had 2 IPs and I believe they were both 5068's. Said he got them both from Texas Diesel Guy. The first one was from Wester's thru TDG and it crapped out and he wasn't happy with their warranty/custmer service(Wester's). The second was thru TDG directly was a much better pump.He put about 7k on it and the motor crapped out (blown head gaskets). I tried calling TDG from the phone # CR gave me and no response so far. So unless someone has something else to add it looks to me like the best option is Heath's GL4 and a stock pump. If TD reads this I believe I read you were considering experimenting on an IP. Please keep us posted
 
Got my GL4 installed but I still need to do a new water pump and while I'm in there I'm going to put in my gear drive setup. Once I do that I will do a TDCO and a computer-IP coordinate. Then I should really know how my new puter is really doing. So far with only a few miles and no towing I've noticed an egt drop of about 100*. Also on some of the hills that my tranny used to downshift for it doesn't need to downshift. Haven't got my turbo master on yet but I've noticed more boost and that it doesn't fade away like before. So far so good.
 
the 4 plunger DB-2, I havent kept up on it in along time since I had decided to go the cummins route, but back in the day when people where making progress at first tinkering with the DS-4 mainly the 5068 it was just thrown out that it would take about 100mm3 to get to 300 rwhp, It doesnt seem like there since then had ever been a whole lot of optimism or interest by many to do any more work on the DS-4 to squeeze out more fuel or even if its possible and as other have stated it is a tempermental IP. A few people said they have acheived high 90's and but I've never read any claims of people getting over 100mm3 with a DS-4.

Just note also that 100m3 would support 300 rwhp, was a therhotical number more than anything else, and was intedend to be a guidline more than a rule.
