4l80e swap 96 to 4.8 04

It can be made to work, but it's not a direct bolt in. Biggest difference will be the cooler line hookups. 97+ is what is known as a center luber where the cooler out flow comes out at the bellhousing, and cooler return is mid way back. 96- has both lines in front. The nsbu will have to be swapped to the 03+ single plug unit. You will most likely have to also swap the actual shift arm. You will lose the bolt hole at the very top of the brllhousing pattern as well. As to the converter, I'm not certain which your 96 would be. TBI engines had a dual stator mid stall unit, but I don't know which one your 96 will have. 97+ 5.7's had a high stall single stator unit, but 96 to early 97 was a transition period without much clarity in the parts catalogs. 99+ LS small blocks used a high stall unit.
