Always thought if you disconnected that it would screw the computer up.
It goes to limp mode. It is not a diagnostic aid. Unplugging the vssb does nothing but put it into limp mode shifting based off of strictly the input speed sensor.
 
Therm, this post is why I thought you could just unplug...is the buffer a different sensors?? If so where is it
The vssb is the vehicle speed sensor buffer, it converts the low AC voltage signal from the speed sensor into signals for the speedometer, abs, and ecm.
 
Ok so that's what he disconnected that made the truck run good... Just no speedometer... wouldn't that be a possibility of a electrical short ?..just trying to learn
