3208 Cat

well i dont know anything about the 3208, but the 3408 idles around 500-600 last i knew!!

We had a few turbo'ed and non-turbo'ed at the mine and they all idled between 650 -700 once they were warm. The '94 we turned up to about 950-1000 cause it would die.

Mine has a dying problem. Can't figure it out but suspect the primer plunger cause if you shut the truck off once in a blue moon it will start then stall a few times and need to be revved up . Ity also stalled one time after I had just started it cold and I had to push the primer about 20x to get it to start. I saw a drip of fuel come out of the plunger when I was priming it so I suspect it . Can't find any other obivous leaks in the fuel system.

Losing prime? Could be the fuel shut off. Or There was a brass fitting where the lines came to the engine from the tank on the passenger side of the engine that was cracked internally and would make our service truck lose prime straight to the tank with no external leak. I believe it has the pressure and return lline side by side on it. It has been awhile

HELP!!

OK Update. the problem has gotten worse to the point where I had to take the truck off the road. No one can figure out what's wrong with it but I'm leaning towards an injector pump. I need seriuos help here. That is a hard hit if it doesn't cure the problem . Here's the latest symptoms. I used the truck last sat. No issues. Ran good. Parked it. Monday Morning truck started no problem. Ambient temps over the weekend was pretty cold but truck was plugged in. Left it idled up for about 15 mins or so. Got in it and when I got to the end of my street and went to stop the truck stalled at idle and would not restart. I got out and pumped the piss out of the hand pump and ehtered it. it finally started. I kept going. It felt low on power especially when i got on the highway. As soon as I got off the off ramp it died and would not restart no matter what i did. I must have hand pumped it a million times and ether etc. Nothing except a lite sputter from the ether. The tow truck came and he flat towed me off the ramp. He said try bump starting it while I'm pulling you. Truck started and idled. I got on the highway. seriuos loss of power and I felt if I didn't keep the throttle pinned it would stall. I managed to get it home and when I pulled in the driveway and let off the throttle it stalled and would not restart. I tried for two hours and got nothing from it. I disonnected the fueline from the primary(glass) filter and put it in a pail full of fuel and hand pumped it till primer was hard. again nothing not even a sputter. I didn't see obviuos fuel coming out of the plastic drip tubes on the IP but I have seen yellow spots in the snow. I took the engine shut off sol off and worked the rack by hand. No start. also I didnt see fuel in there although it wasn't dry, just no fuel from what i could see. I gave up and had the guy tow it to his shop with intention of replacing IP. As they towed it down the road it bump started. after keeping it WOT for a few minutes it diled and ran fine. They shut it off a dozen times and it started right up. I took it for a road test and drove it up and down a very steep hill and really pushed it. it ran perfect. I drove it home and shut it off. next moring it started no problem I got halfway down the street and I took it out of gear while moving and let it idle. It stalled. I quickly popped it into gear while I was moving and it started. I kept it running and turned it around and brought it back home. Ikept it running half throttle in the driveway for a few minutes then it seemed to idle. I shut it off. It started right back up. If I go outside right now it will start. it feels basically like it's starving for fuel like maybe the transfer pump is weak ??? WTF ??? Please help cause I'm out of ideas. I Actually had to buy another truck and pull the plates on it. BTW I swapped the old hand pump back on thinking the new one may have been the problem. No difference.

I never updated two shops said the truck needed an IP but a buddy of mine from another forum told me basically I was a horses patoot if I did it . I finally gave up and started preping for an IP. The one saddle tank that the truck draws fuel from was leaking so I decided to pull it off and weld it and thouroughly clean both tanks before new IP install. well aside from the fact that both tanks had nasty sludge /eater in them the tank with the pickup tube had a small bottle in the bottom that I didn't see. So I think the crap in the tank was causing freeze ups in cold weather and the bottle was causing the random stalling. Trucks been running fine for 4 months now and counting.
