2WD & 4WD 4L80E?

Might look dumbass with my question, but, if I get, let's say a 1997 4L80E from a 2WD, can I use it on a 1997 4WD?

Should I have only to swap the tail housing extension and go?

You will have to open it up to swap the output shaft and tail housing. Also the 2 wheel drive one will have a tone wheel on the output shaft whereas the 4 wheel drive one will not. Do not damage that tone wheel as they are worth some money to somebody who needs it.

You basicaly have to take the whole thing apart to change output shaft, so you might consider new clutches/seals and other possible upgrades while in there.
