It looks pretty promising in all regards, and I think it will take a bite out of the half ton market boasting 30+ MPG empty and a tow rating of 7700 pounds. Official ordering began middle of last week, with deliveries expected to begin within 3 weeks. They already have some rolling onto the assembly line being built now as they retooled and started building the engines about 2 weeks ago I believe. The only concern as of right now is the 6L50 trans that GM is sticking behind it. GM is upping the torque rating on it to match the diesel engine instead of just putting the 6L80E behind it to begin with. And as a bonus, tuning is already available for it from EFILIVE as the engine has been in production for sometime now for overseas markets.

Some actual pics of one.

To be fair this is answering the question of "Where is my MPG" instead of the HP wars in the 3/4 and 1 tons. But the tow rating of the 5 cyl was high too and didn't deliver anything other than a orange triangle. The RAM diesel is already running synthetic oil hot and using electric fans. I wonder if this is also electric fans and then towing is frankly an afterthought.

At least it isn't a 4L60E/4L70E transmission. GM only got the trans behind a diesel right once with the Allison. Other makes like Dodge have a past rep for worse.

I got to see these a few years ago in Thailand in the Isuzu badging. Not sure if it was the same engine, but it was Diesel.
Youtube something like "Thailand racing diesels" and I bet you get a lot of hits.

Different engine. The international trucks as 2012 or 13 are using this same engine without all the emissions crap on it, but before then they had a different DMAX engine in them. The earlier engines were capable of INSANE HP levels for such a small engine. As I understand it, this 2.8L engine is simliar to the 2.8L engine that JEEP used a few years back, so it's not an untested engine, just new to the market with the emissions equipment.

Few more. Last pic not a diesel but lots of tourque :D
