Any one checked out the 2009 Harleys?

I did, and fell in love with the new FL bikes. I have been planing for two years now to get an 2009 Street Glide....

However I feel in love with a special Road Glide....Never dreamed I would ever get on of them but...

I put my deposit down on a 2009 CVO FLTRSE3 Road Glide.

It is going to be a very long wait for Feb or March when I can get the bike. Dealer only gets three, one orange, one yellow and the one pictured. I have the deposit on the pictured bike.....

Very very sweet bike Dave. Never been a fan of the dual headlight though...but hey, you asked what I thought. Man I'm an ass huh?
On a side note...what is the best HD forum to join?

Very, very nice!
I can relate to the feeling when they say "It'll be next year..."

Can you explain the mystery behind the HD cryptic code (FLTRSE3)? Someone did a long time ago over on the DP and it did make sense.

DieselDad....

I never really like the dual head light or the fixed fairing either. However most every bike magazie states it is the best handling, most stable of all the halrey touring bikes...Then I saw this version and decided I did like it....

V-twin fourm is the one I usually visit.

Thanks Deere3594

I can explain most the code, but not all..

XL as fist two leters is the sportster family of bikes

FX as the fist two letters is the narrow forks and front tires, in either the softail line or Dyna line...

FL is the Fat front forks on all the touring bikes and some softtails

ST after FL or FX is soft tail family

D after FX is Dyna glide family

FLSTFI
Fat fork....soft tail fatboy injected

FLSTHI
Fat fork soft tail Herritage ingected

FLT or FLH are the touring family

FLTR is the Road Glide

FLHR is road king

FLHT is the electra glide
a c after is the electra glide classic
a cu is the ultra classic

Here is a pretty good link

Nice looking bike, but I will stick to my ATV. I could enjoy riding a Harley but I am too worried about the idiot drivers on the road.

And thats exactly why I'll stick to my ATV instead of a nice cruiser...

I do like bikes but its gotta be a cruiser and not a crotch rocket...I'd kill myself on one of those.

very nice looking bike Dave...

are you gonna put a larger Windscreen on it?

or is the one in the pictures "for pictures only" so as it doesn't distract from the lines of the bike?

Nice sharknose. I aint a fan of them, that one is pretty sharp.

Funny you should mention the 09's I was just at my dealer on saturday, and stopped in to chat with my salesman. He told me about all the updates on the 09 FLH chassis, and now I am SERIOUSLY thinkning about an 09 streetglide.

I gotta call the credit union today to get the payoff on the 06 RK to see if I can pull it off...

oh and you were pretty close on the letter code.

First letter is engine family X=sportster, F=big twin, V=V-Rod

For big twins the second digit is forks X=narrow (sportster style) or springer, L=Fat electra-glide style

3 digit is frame S=Softail, D=Dyna, H=touring with fork mounted (or no) faring, T= touring with frame mounted faring.

4 digit is model family, and varies by frame code. T = standard softail. R= Road King on H frames and Road Glide on T frames, etc etc

The remaining digits express specific models in that family. C is usually custom. (except for Road Kings, where C is 'classic', S is 'custom') X is usally a special designation, I is always injection, SE3 is "Screaming eagle" a factory performance custom.

The first 3 digits are rock solid. The rest are kinda hit and miss. You can be sure an FLH is a bigtwin, fat fork, touring bike with a fork mounted faring. After that, the alphabet soup gets kinda muddy.

IMO it looks just like a Street Glide. Looks like HD is going to eliminate the Glide with the Road King and only sell the Ultra Classic for the touring models.

Good luck with it.

Any news on displacement and Screaming Eagle version?

Thanks.

Yes, I am pretty sure I will put a larger windscreen on it.

The one in the pictures is exactly how it comes. It sure looks good with the tiny wind screen but it is not functional. It's fine for around town and short trips. But I will run a bigger windscreen most the time.

I have never been much of a fan of the fixed fairing, and always liked the Batwing fork mounted much better.

I was hoping for a CVO street glide in 2009.

That said about four months ago I started looking hard at the road glide after an article in American Iron, and another in Iron works and a Third in Bagger magazines. All stated that the road glide was the most stable, least affected by wind, best handling of the touring bikes with a fairing.

Once I saw the CVO screeming eagle road glide I fell in love. However I did price out getting a Street Glide, doing the 110 engine, paint matched inner fairing, 18 front wheel and lowered fender....I was above the price of the Screeming Eagle Road Glide.

So down went the deposit on the Road Glide.

The changes to the FLH / FLT chassis are great, and there are alot of them. Frame is more structurally ridged, the swing arm is much beefier. They also cleaned up the back of the bike alot. Bigger rear tire, 180mm now. They also rerouted the exhaust to help keep heat off the legs. I can tell you for sure the 09 rides better than the 08, rode them both the same day. They also now have a higher payload on the 09's.

I am stoked about being able to get the CVO Road Glide. It is going to be a very long wait to Feb when It comes in.

Good luck with getting the new street glide Tim.

Any news on displacement and Screaming Eagle version?

The 2009's are still 96" engines. The Screaming Eagles are still 110" versions.

The bike I put the deposit on, is the Screaming Eagle Road Glide with the 110" eninge with 115 torque at 4000 rpm, which is more than the Screaming Eagle Ultra has, more the the SE FatBob, and more than the SE Springer.

Those are the four SE bikes for 2009.

I love that bike. I have been tossed between the Roadglide and Streeglide for a few years now. I haven't seen the RG you are getting, but it is bad ass. I love the bags, Maybe I could get some on the Streetglide? I would trade my 04 fxdwgi in a heartbeat, for a new one. Did you see the new engine function? roll the throttle forward at a stop and it cuts out the rear cylinder. They did that and rerouted the rear cyl exhaust to combat the heat. I'm a little jealous, I want one! You'll have to post some pics when it shows up.
