2009 6.4 issues?

Ok Ford fans, A good friend of mine has a 09 6.4 with 12k mi. If he rides on the interstate for awhile, no problem. If he gets on it it stalls for a good 5+sec. then it blows white/grey smoke, it sorta goes but not real good. It just started doing this about a week ago and he has not had time to go to his dealer yet.
What does any body think this could be?

I thought re-gen as well, but he says he gets a green dash light when it's in re-gen mode? and no light. Another Ford guy thought EGR, I don't see how that could make it stall out though??
