Hey Guys,
I have been running the Walmart 2-cycle marine oil for a while based off what alot of people have been using with great results. Now my question is since there has been testing of this specific oil can we use any other brand of 2-cyle oil?

Whatever the cheapest you can find. I use the cheapest TCW3 2-stroke or non-detergrent SAE30 I can find. Always something different as I just pick up a few quarts here and there.

Yep whatever is fine, its so dilute it just adds a tad of lube. I'm not even sure you could feel the difference on your hands. PRobably could...

I been runnign Sae-30 non detergent, cheaper, and does not have the dark dye that could possibly stain the Optic Eye over years...

Once accidently put ATF in.....

I run 2 stroke and power service. When I start to drive daily I will probably just use 2 stroke and save power service for when I need the extra additive.

I have put ATF in several times with no issues, worked well, but costs more, so no reason to use it, but works if nothing else available.

The best additive you can use to improve lube is 100% soy diesel at a 50:1 ratio with pump diesel. I just read a very good scientific test over at the place in the Maintaince and fluids section. Power service adds very little lube. 2 stroke oil was 7th on the list.

Powerservice adds Cetane (not sure what that does) and a little lube. and a few other things. A must in wintertime, but I'm just in habit to add a splash. Can't hurt. Says it helps with cold starts, it may lower the flashpoint a little.

It does not lube enough to not use a primary source of lubricant thats for sure.

Here is what power service does;

Winter Performance Benefits:

* Prevents fuel gelling in temperatures as low as -40°F.
* Equals the performance of a 50/50 blend of No. 2 and No. 1 diesel fuels
* Lowers Cold-Filter Plugging Point (CFPP) as much as 36°F. — keeps fuel-filters from plugging with wax
* Boosts cetane up to 4 numbers for faster cold starts
* Contains anti-icing additives — protects against fuel-filter icing

Year-Around Performance Benefits:

* Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Compliant — contains less than 15 parts per million (ppm) sulfur
* Effective in all diesel fuels, including ULSD and biodiesel blends containing up to 20% biodiesel (B20)
* Contains Slickdiesel® for maximum fuel lubrication — protects fuel injectors and pumps against accelerated wear from Low and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels
* Boosts cetane up to 4 numbers — engines run smoother with less power lag
* Boosts power — reduces need for downshifting
* Keeps fuel injectors clean — exceeds Cummins L10 Injector Depositing Test Superior specifications
* Increases MPG — fuel savings exceed cost of additive
* Disperses water in diesel fuel

I do not use it for lubricity, I use it for the other things that it is suppose to do. Helps disperse water is high on my list, so is the cetane boost. My truck is old and needs all the help it can get! ):h

Cetane is like Octane in regular fuel. The higher the cetane, the more power you should get. I have been using a blend of Stanadyne and 2 stroke for over 2 years now with no problems. I notice the injectors are quieter when I run 2 stroke than without. I run 8 oz. of Stanadyne in a 24 oz. gatorade bottle and fill the rest up with Walmart 2 stroke oil. I run it every tank. A gallon of good bio-diesel is the best for lubricant if that is what your looking for.

You can see results in THIS THREAD TOO

Although 2 stroke may be 7th on the list, the important point is to look at what it does and its value. The Optilube summer blend is surprising at such a low ratio of 3000:1, it dominates. B5 would be really good but not available anywhere near I live.

Used 15W-40 actually did terrible, so I'd be interested in seeing what the unused SAE30 actually does.

The two are a bit opposite, although higher is normally better. With Octane the higher the number the greater resistance to detonation. And with Cetane the higher the number the easier it is to combust.

On the list it says

REG Soypower Biodiesel.

Any B100 biodiesel must be similar?

Use this link to find Bio near you. Mine is 40miles away, but I work out that way often, so I'm going to start getting some.

Do you know if it pumps out like a regular diesel pump? Meaning I should bring my fuel tanks with me? Or perhaps I'll just pump it into my xfer pump....??

Pumps the same, just made from more natural stuff. All you need is something to put it in. Also always carry a spare filter. It can clean out all the fuel tank and lines if you use too much. Which can clog your filter.

Thanks guys!
Good info! I was comparing prices and it seems the Walmart 2-cycle oil is about the cheapest in my area. BIO is too far for me to travel to get.

for bio, you may want to check your local craigslist or kijiji. I found a couple guys on there in my area who sell it. Have yet to try it though.

I would be cautious with home made bio diesel. It could be made right but, also could be made wrong. I believe they make test kits for it. I just would be very cautious on purchasing it from a person I did not trust!

That was kinda what I wanted to say the higher the number the better! To a point.
