1996 Chevy Suburban LS 4wd- NO 4 High?

I can get it to shift into 4 low and it clunk and goes, but when I push the 4 high button both the 4H and 4L lights blink and then they all go out and no 4wd. But if I put it in neutral and go from 2H to 4L it will shift and I have 4wd. I have replaced the actuator on the front axle, didn't change anything.

Also after driving in 2H for a few minutes all the lights on the switches go out? Does any one know what would cause this? I really need the 4H to work.

It is a 1996 Chevrolet LS K1500 with the 5.7L vortec.

The button assembly has a history of failing and causing those kind of problems.
