Problem: Explain your problem in concise language (ie: Cranks but won’t fire). Cranks but will not start. None of the gauges or glow plug light come on. If I turn the key off and on for up to 5 minuets or so the glow plug light comes on and everything is wonderful again. I have no codes.

- Year:1995
- Truck model and class (ie: c2500) K1500
- Automatic or Standard Automatic

- Replaced parts and mods (IP, PMD, chip/PCM, TM, injectors etc) none
Model: ‘S’ or ‘F’ engine, NA or Turbo, EGR? S
Ambient outside temp: (indicate *C or *F) 80 F
What fuel are you using? #2 Diesel
What fuel additives are you using? none
Where are you located? Minnesota
General maintenance: inspect and evaluate the condition of each. When were they last changed?
- Air filter 7000
- Fuel filter 7000
- CDR Valve? 15000
- Coolant – last flushed/replaced at 7000
- Oil – synthetic/regular, changed at Regular 15w40 2000
Batteries – state of charge, (matched set) replaced at 500 miles matched set
- Battery cables and grounds (removed, cleaned and tightened): 500 miles ago
- Glow Plugs - how many miles on them?15000
What type? 60g
- Injectors - last changed at haven't

History: (Describe how the problem first appeared.)
- What were you doing when it happened? 1st sign of trouble was after i 1st started truck and drive about a block or 2 truck would die, and i would have to turn key off and restart. also ABS light had came on and found I had blown a fuse, replaced it and ABS was fine after that then my Direction indicator located in the rear view mirror went out, but the lights in the mirror still work. now for the last 6 months it can take from 10 seconds up to 10 minuets to get the truck to start. no9w I can't get it to go at all.
- How was the truck running fine before this problem appeared? Truck ran fine other than above, no codes.
- Has this problem ever happened before? no
- Describe any related factors that might be part of the problem. See above
- Have you checked for DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)? (Y.N) Y And? no codes

List and describe any other factors which are not addressed in this checklist. We can’t see, hear, smell, or touch your truck, so the more descriptive information you can give, the more likely it is that somebody can assist you.

When I turn the key on and get no gauges or glow plugs, I tested the fuse for the gauges and it is getting a very faint light. This makes me believe that it is a ground problem. I just do not know where to look for the ground problem. The battery grounds and the Engine to body grounds seem good.

My 92 has a ground on the pas rear of the head, and goes into the main wiring harness, sometimes I forget to put it on and it makes the lift pump and gauges act very weird, the 95 probably has even more grounds.

Get a volt meter, then check to see what your missing.

I'd lean twards a bad ignition switch but would eliminate everything else first. Ignition switch for a 95+ is over $150. I replaced the whole steering column with a junkyard one for less than the switch.

'95's have a front engine ground on both sides of the block, a rear engine ground on passenger side which goes to the frame ground behind the passenger tire (provides PCM grounding) and a lift pump ground about a foot aft of the lift pump on the same frame rail as the LP.

Air in the fuel line crashed my instrument panel like that too, but corrected with ignition off and back on.

Definately sounds like an ignition problem. There is a PCM power problem, meaning its either not getting its igntion source, which is on a different contact than starter, or cranking is vibrating the ground on the back of the passensger side intake bolt and one on water blockoff plate behind the intake.

No Glow light and no SES light means no PCM power. If other things arent coming on either like radio or dash lights then its all tied to the ignition switch.
