Question: My mechanic (trustworthy independent) is seeing vacuum hoses that run into the dash and he is reluctant to go the vacuum pump delete & TM route, so by chance does the 99 Burb actually use vacuum for more than just the wastegate?
Back story: Getting some work done on the Burb and the vacuum pump decided to go out while at the shop (better than on the road I guess . . .), so now I am adding a new serp belt to the list of fixes (the pump randomly locked-up so confidence in the belt is not good anymore, besides it was on borrowed time anyway) and the question is whether to replace the pump or go with a shorter belt and delete the pump. In the near future I want to go with an ATT and get away from a wastegate, but the wallet is not ready for this yet.
Have searched a bit on the vacuum pump delete, saw where others did it, and put it into my wish list of upgrades, but the feedback about the additional vacuum lines gave me a bit of confusion about whether to go the delete route or replace the failing pump. I do recognize that if I go with the pump delete & TM that it will also have to get an ECM tune to avoid codes, at least a couple gauges, and probably a new tensioner (do not know the Burb’s history prior to 140K miles).
